I hadn't watched the Sugar Ray Robinson vs. Carmen Basilio I match for almost 20 years. Last night it was on ESPN. Damn those guys were great. I am sorry guys, the best fighters from the 30s through the late 60s were far superior to anything we have today. Basilio was 7 pounds smaller than SRR, took everything SRR could throw at him and gave it back. SRR was smooth as hell, popping Basilio at will while moving back and side to side. These guys make Floyd Mayweather and Hatton look like little girls. Teddy Atlas said it the other night. The United States was full of young hungry fighters, workinging out at one of the many gyms found in any city USA. During the 70s, boxing lost its way in the US and hasn't and most likely will not make a comeback.
