If Robinson beat Maxim for the LHW title, where would you rank him? Would he unquestionably be the GOAT, instead of being tied with Greb and Armstrong?
I have him ahead of Armstrong slightly, even with this win (which he should have had), the gap between him and Greb is quite wide. Even with SRR capturing the LHW title, it still wouldn't lift him above Greb or Langford.
Undoubtedly IMO. Still the best by a country mile, but the 175 title would have made sure no one EVER gets near.
Greb beat Tommy Loughran, Maxie Rosenbloom, Jack Dillon, Jimmy Slattery and Battling Levinsky- all world light-heavy champs, two of whom you could argue rank in the top 10 (a claim that could never be made for Maxim). He also beat American LH Champ Gene Tunney and Kid Norfolk, rightfully considered one of the greatest LHs to never win a world title. Needless to say, a win over Maxim still wouldn't be as impressive as even HALF of the above achievements. Greb's LH win column is miles ahead of anything SRR could have accomplished at that weight.
Sugar is THE greatest fighter of all time. The others mentioned are ATG's. Next thread please. and the Greb, Langford, etc.."they moved up" theory doesn't hold up after the era change. Ray wouldn't have been a dominant LH. He tore thru the WW division and MW (after about a 'thousand fights') Then retired and came back giving us numerous exciting bouts despite being Long past prime! Everyone mentioned is top 5 (or higher) but SRR rules the roost IMHO!
Still would be the top dog at the top spot.Interesting scenario if he went after the heavyweight belt, especially if Walcott was the champ.
