I read on another thread that Turpin challenged Robinson for a shot at the title after he lost the second time. Robinson was to recieve a record amount for the might, it was to be the first million dollar gate below a HW bout, Robinson wanted no part of it and walked away. Is this true, anyone got any info on this?

Im not sure turpin could maintain a control his personal life at that time, i think he had trouble with a woman at that time.

I have both fights there was never any question as to who won (just British sentiment and hope, and I am a Brit), SRR was the clear winner and the fact that he got cut and pours it on to end it only demonstrates this fact more.

there was no need for a third encounter, Turpin didn't land all that often and the commentary even talks about Turpin not quite being in it much... I'll have to watch it again. But when I first seen it (a few times), I had wondered where all the myth came from, because it's certainly not evident in the return!

Well Turpin clearly won the first fight on points. 9 4 2 was the card i think..and Robinson clearly won the second by a knockout but that fight was on the verge of bieng stopped due to a cut to Robinson's eye
Why then no need for a third fight?.no sentiment either way either but where is the myth?

I think Turpin is somewhat underated here at ESB...very difficult style to fight and super strong at the weight (the man had success fighting light heavies!) I don't think Ray particularly wanted to see him in the opposite corner again, at that time in his career (thinking of retirement more than fighting)

For Ray it would have been a relatively high risk not much reward fight.
Im not sure there was much public demand either States wise or the UK for a third fight

Turpin had an awkward style that gave Robby problems and he was extremely powerfull as a middleweight. The fact that the ref stopped the fight with 8 seconds in the round warrants a third encounter to me.

Robinson would've been 2 - 1 against Randy. It would still have been a very tough fight for Ray though.
