[FONT=Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]Former IBF world 130 pound champion Gairy St Clair (41-10-2, 18 KOs) contacted Fightnews today to advise he has officially retired as a boxer. He will continue to stay in boxing as a trainer.

Seriously one of the best careers of any Australian based fighter right now...Always a favorite of mine..you saw skill and excitement in a lot St Claire fights, and as a boxing fan you cant really ask for much more.

Spot on, the guy fought Diego Corrales in his 11th fight (I think) and took it right up to him for 12 rounds. I think if he go some more chances earlier in his career he would have won more than one or two titles, but by the time him a johnny lewis got together time wasnt really on his side

Pity Amir Khan who is a neville was too much for a over 30yr boxer at the time

Whats a Neville ? Khan beat this fella before Kickett and Zapp , Gairy was a decent trial horse for these kids on the rise , i hope he earned enough poke to stick to is retirement plans and don't come back ,i didn't see it but i heared he got stopped badly in his last fight so it makes sence to call it a day .

Good luck to him as a trainer. A brave fighter but hunmg around a little too long and finished his career in a way that did not reflect his abilities. I always thought of him as a fighter who liked to keep busy with his fight schedule. The loss to Kickett was really the beginning of the end IMO.
