ST Gordon has the win over Berbick.
    Atrocious fight I've heard.

It looked as much like a walking tank job as any match I've ever seen. Allegations Trevor was somehow doped looked like they could have merit. We know for a fact Ali doped himself with a Thyrolar overdose for Holmes. The main difference here was that Berbick continually advanced, while Gordon didn't have the guns to damage him. S.T. failed to impress in his final career win, while Berbick afterwards embarked on a nine fight winning streak which culminated with the WBC HW Title.

Carlos Padilla was the referee for that one, and he absolutely hated to end matches via disqualification. Somebody like Frank Cappuchino may very well have thrown Trevor out for non effort in that situation. One could have used a tally sheet to could Berbick's punch rate in this one. Weirdly and atypically moribund performance by him.

Gordon winged bombs, but displayed little skill, and Mustafa Muhammad frankly looked better against Snipes, as porked up as Eddie was for Renaldo.

Sounds very suspicious. I'll look out for it.

I remember the Gordon-Berbick fight well. Gordon simply outworked- in his stiff, over-muscled way- a sluggish Berbick who couldn't keep up. I remember Berbick being completely befuddled and literally asking his cornerman "What do I do?" and his cornerman went berserk saying "Trevor, you gotta throw some punches!"

ST was ripped to the gills and looked like he was solid muscle. I remember his training talking about a rematch with Cooney and saying the reason Gordon had been DQ'd before was because "well, you know, Cooney couldn't hit ST".

I didn't see anything suspicious at the time about the fight. ST was a strong, fight off the heels, awkward heavyweight who fought with energy and was a good bit sharper than Berbick. Berbick couldn't hurt Gordon so the rounds slowly tilted Gordon's way.

To me, both participants performed as if they were actually muscle bound, neither able to unload a sharp straight punch to save their lives.
At the time, I wondered why Gerry wasn't rematched with former resistant opponents like Gordon and Eddie Lopez. In hindsight, it may well be that ST was physically stronger than Cooney, who for all his size and punching power was a physically weakish heavyweight.
Which is how a few people I knew at the time saw it as well. However, after seeing Trevor against John Tate, Holmes, Ali and Page, I just couldn't buy that. Even in the loss to Snipes he was coming off of, he was more competitive, even though Renaldo hurt and dropped him out the gate. Gordon-Berbick simply didn't match what I'd previously seen of Trevor. [Berbick wasn't out to beat Holmes so much as snap Larry's eight title defense KO streak, much the way Godoy had done 40 years earlier against Louis in their first match. Incidentally, the old Bomber was a ringside spectator for Holmes-Berbick, and would be dead within hours after viewing a similar bout to Godoy I.]

Trevor should be ashamed for losing to ST.

True, especially now, but at the time, I would've been humiliated if I was in his shoes.Maybe Gerry Cooney should've made S.T his comeback opponent.

Haha good to see Carpentier in there TBooze - great fighter great record would've been great in any era I think at his best - one of the most scintillating right hands in history bar none and a beautiful boxer to watch - became a real true icon to his people and won either national/European/or world titles in every weight division from flyweight to heavyweight
