Yeah, boxing forums are where all the big fights are made, I'm sure Ippy and Ash feel so stupid for not being more involved on this board now
You are the one that moped in here seeking 'plausible suggestions' from the forum >>> Here's a few plausible suggestions for you >>> Try to find an opponent who is: Under 40. Not being coerced out of retirement. Not about to retire. Likely to be at least semi-competitive. Very preferably in the top 100.
Not sure how many times it needs be said I, personally, would love to see Alex v Mark II from a fans point of view. BUT It makes no sense for someone trying to have an overseas career. It makes a handle of Aussie fans happy, but a win doesn't do much for him internationally and a loss of course hurts him to. That's why it's balancing risk v reward, when there is little reward in it why would you. And yes I still think Mark wins via TKO after round 6
Mark's interpretation of risk vs reward will probably ensure an opponent of this criteria isn't 'plausible' >>> Under 40. Not being coerced out of retirement. Not about to retire. Likely to be at least semi-competitive. Very preferably in the top 100.
FYI, Looks like his October China fight has fallen through just to add some fuel to most of your fires.
Hardly a surprise. He's been going nowhere for a long time now. Are you able to assure us his next opponent won't be retired, 41 year old Damon Reed or 46 year old Bert Cooper? I hope you can.
One of Damon's guys from his gym called Mark out on Facebook the other day. I think he was 30 odd, is that better? Not sure age/retirement means much really. Would a fight with Holyfield be trashed as beating up has beens? Just wondering.
"Not sure age/retirement means much really". atsch You couldn't possibly be naive enough to actually believe that. No point grasping at one of the few exception to the age rule, in Holyfield, and thinking the same applies to the likes of Reed, Calloway, Weida or Cooper
maybe try vietnam next. antarctica after that huh? there must be a vacant belt there for mark to pick up
Had a quick chat to Mark on Twitter when he posted this (I was checking to see if it was Welliver....Its not). Anyway he told me he's asked Don King to set him up with Samuel Peter who is signed with King now. It would be the right step up if it happened. He went through some of the other fights fallen through like Tyson Fury. He seems pretty down with it all actually. Was good to chat to him though. At the end of the day, he's been with DK for a while and nothing has come of it. If what you're doing isnt working, you try something else.
Yeah, I've heard of enough of them going to the courts:-( before your free. When does it come up for negotiation?
