Certain fighters seem to have endless energy some dont is stamina genetic? These are the fighters i think have the best stamina Kelly Pavlik Floyd Mayweather Evander Holyfield (Prime) Mike Tyson (Prime) JCC Roy Jones (Prime)
I don't know that "stamina" is genetic; rather, specific muscle fiber orientation/skill is. some have higher aerobic thresholds, for example. I think that is what this thread is referring to.
i'm not so sure, i work on conditioning around 6 days a week, but in an intense 4 round sparring session i tire out and sometimes its with guys who train 3 or 4 days a week.
It is so in essence stamina? Rather than saying is: specific muscle fiber orientation genetic. It is easier to say stamina. Also It may be. But not all thing's appear to be genetic Roy Jones Jr's father was nothing special in the ring for example and look at Roy. Full of natural ability.
I'm guessing this isn't a 6 mile jog every day. what do you do? This is what I'm talking about: those guys he trains with are naturally better (or w;e the term is) with anaerobic stuff. They may gas out over the long term. I always seem to tire out with anaerobic stuff more. I can jump rope for very long, but if I'm doing a very fast combo on the pads continually, I will start to gas. you can improve both systems, so hard work will typically be enough to get you where you need to be.
Mabye Jones Sr is one of Ali's many love children that we dont know about. Cant see the resemblence myself :think
my training consists of 4 days of boxing (sparring, padwork, bag etc.) 2 days of interval running (sprint 400 meters 10 burpees 10 push ups 10 medicine ball slams, tabata sprints etc) 2 days of 3 mile run (not jog) and 2 days of circuit training (30 seconds of burpees, 30 seconds of jumping jacks, 30 secs of push ups 30 secs of rope sprints repeat 5 or 6 times, mix up the circuits etc.)
Tyson in his prime never had "endless" stamina. His stamina was good, perhaps very good, but not outstanding. Stamina, like punching power, is a part genetic, part training. You also have to consider how hard people punch. For instance, Ali had great stamina but very often didn't sit down on his punches. This increases his punch output statistics. Frazier on the other hand, threw almost exclusively power punches. During Ali vs Frazier I, Ali threw 60 punches a round (15 rounds!) while Frazier averaged 47. However, many of those Ali punches were jabs, perhaps even half of them, whereas the vast majority of Frazier's were hard hooks or uppercuts. Punchstats don't say everything of course: Ali spent quite some energy moving around (especially in the 60's), while Frazier spent a lot of energy on upper body movement.
hmm...this sounds good. I think my new training routine (once I get enough discipline to maintain one) will consist of such things....3-4 days at the gym, 2 days sprints and plyos, general boxing/conditioning at home and some explosive strength training. dunno. just know anaerobic is imperative now from sparring and ****.
Tyson doesn't belong there, even during his prime. And Pacman has to be there. Jones/PBF do not have good workrate so I am not sure if they should be up there with the likes of Holy, Pavlik, JC, Pacman.
