I see more and more pro boxers who fight with their shoulders basically square to their opponent Just this weekend we had Cotto and Mormeck fight from these kind of stances Advantage is you can launch a right hand lead as easily as the jab, a right hook as easily as a left hook disadvantage is your right hand won't be as powerful Thoughts ?
in a squared stance you cannot hide behind your shoulder, your jab does not have as much range, you may be more prone to being knocked down because of your balance, you're less mobile and a bigger target in general in my opinion, but if your style is a crouched come forward type attack, it allows you to swing with both hands as easily, it is easier to crowd your opponents, and it is very intimidating if you do it well because compared to boxers who fight with that angle you are much more "in their face" so to speak
If my opponent is much taller I square up because it's easier to slip, duck and move in that way. Against guys my own size I try to box behind the left shoulder, in a 45 degree angle.
can anybody visualize ( by picture(s) of something) what the exact difference is the between the squared shoulders and the 45 degrees schoulders???
thanks, peterp, looking forward to it. I've a idea what the difference is but when i see a picture or something it is easier to understand.
