Stanionis won clear enough. His straight shots were the most dominant scoring blows in the fight. Especially the jab, which is a serious weapon. I don't think he got enough credit for his cross when Butaev turned leftie, either. He seemingly stunned Butaev in the final round, too.
Close fight, I thought Butaev edged it, but many rounds were close and difficult to score. I had Butaev winning 114-113 (115-113 without the point deduction). But one or two of the close rounds I gave to Butaev could have gone to Stanoinis, so it was not a robbery. However, I didn't like the behavior of the referee and the biased anti-Butaev commentary. Steve Farhood is a terrible commentator and doesn't score rounds objectively.
114-113 Butaev No problem with the decision. Stanionis massively exceeded my expectations and fought out of his skin. I just didn't think he was on Butaev's level. The point deduction didn't change the outcome of my card nor the official decision. I thought it was warranted somewhat, Butaev was blatantly fouling from the first round and had been warned for pushing down on the head from as early as the 4th. He seemed to get legitimately frustrated that Stan wouldn't wilt. Someone in the RBR thread said they were beating the prime out of each other and I'd have to agree. Pretty brutal fight.
Stanionis clearly won, even without the point deduction, in an instant classic, one for the ages. Comparable to Tua-Ibeabuchi.
butaev was frustrated pulling on the back of stanionis head. Shoulda been more points. butaev was lucky.
Stanionis in a very close fight. By one round, 2 at most if you are one of his fans. Or even a draw (that would make stanionis the winner, since the referee deducted one point to butaev). Very close fight, very close, but with a clear winnner I think (specially with that deducted point, that removes the possibility of a draw).
the referee clearly hurt butaev's boxing. I didnt like the referee at all. With another referee butaev would have performed way better (and probably won, imho) the referee had a real impact in the outcome of the fight, that's never a good thing.
Stanionis won. His jab was the difference. Like the poster above I though the ref blew also but it was still the jab that won it
