the ref from the macklin v sturm fight last night. thought he was great, he let them fight inside and didnt keep breaking them like some refs would, just let them get on with it....contributed to a great fight. good ref that.
Yep... Macklin just wanted to close the gap and whale away and the ref let him get on with it. Sturms guard was always up so there was never any real danger of a serious head clash. I think he had a brief few words with Macklin at one point but he mostly let them get on with it. It was also to Sturm's credit that he never complained about it when I can think of others that would have.
Yeah he did a great job last night, he let the fight flow and wasn't getting involved every 30 seconds.
Amazing that he refereed his first championship fight in 76 or something before either of them were born
Always thought he was an excellent referee (although he should not of been allowed to referee outside South Africa until the early 90s, but that was not his fault, but of the scum WBA). Always had a soft spot for him, the name inevitably means you remember when he refereed a fight. A top quality official.
Some of the notable bouts Christodoulou has refereed, include: Thomas Hearns v Pipino Cuevas Aaron Pryor v Alexis Argüello (First bout) Marvin Hagler v Roberto Durán
It cant be to hard to referee a fight where you already know who wins. Not disagreeing with the original sentiment though:good
Yeah, he's been reffing as long as I've been following boxing. And that's pretty much most of my life.
Yeah, he's been around for ages and ages. And he's a name I normally think of for good reffing and good score cards (not always perfect, but then who is and a load better than the norm).
