i recently posted a thread asking how good Salvador Sanchez could have been had he lived and I got some great answers, so I’m curious about acouple more,

    Stanley Ketchel

    Edwin Valero

    Les Darcy

How much greater could these 3 have been had they lived longer?

Sorry, I assumed they were walking into a bar and a punch line would ensue.

Valerio and Ketchel seem similar and that their tales would have played out similarly given enough time. Valerio was a time bomb any way you slice it. Ketchel was already a hop head and had been thru some tough fights. He was making poor life-choices, as they say.

Darcy would have made a bigger impact, I believe. He had all the talent in the world and wasn't the nutjob that the other two were.

KnowDarcy came USA during 1st world war, from Australiahe was unjustly branded slacker died broken hearted. HE beat some highly ranked middles, wass aid destined to be all time great.Ketchel of course rated high alltime middles. Don't know why some old timers not taken serious, look at the number of rounds they fought and how many times a year. Who can do that today. 12 is title limit , Some times they fought 25 rounds hahahaha

    Ketchell was physically done.

Whatever the particulars, he wasn't doing much more.

I have a lot on Stanley and read where he was not and that it was rumors. As for THAT guy. He has an agenda and I dont believe he has a relationship with the truth. Just a miserable life hating, self- effacing troll.

    Hah!

Ketchel is one that I am not as knowledgeable on. But i have read quite a bit on him tangential to other fighters. The hophead thing was repeated a lot.

Klompton has cred, in my eyes. He wrote a definitive book on one of boxing's very greatest and wasn't merely some internet poster.

I'm all ears to your theory on why this accusation was nothing but hype.

Wait until Klompton gets on a roll about Darcy then.

He was a draft dodging, coward whose every fight in Australia was fixed. Everyone he fought was a drunk, gambling addicted has been and it was just lucky that he died before Greb killed him.

As for the thread I by and large agree with Seamus. Ketchel had had a long and hard career even at that tender age and was possibly going to get picked off in the next few years (though it was going to take a good fighter) if he kept fighting. Darcy was coming into his prime, was clean living, talented and already a seasoned fighter. He’d already trounced McGoorty and Chip and likely would’ve destroyed Al McCoy if he got him in the ring. In saying that Darcy was fast outgrowing middleweight anyway so maybe the Lt Heavyweight division is where he would have made a bigger mark.

Valero was a violent, sick, head case and was going to come unstuck eventually. It was inevitable with a psychological make up and brain injuries like that.

Jimmy Clabby was also very highly regarded, Darcy having a couple wins over him.

Ketchel was a physical savant, but as others say he was finished physically already, and would've gone downhill, though not without a couple of good wins. Also, I'm pretty sure he was insane, although not fully in a bad way.

Valero would've ended up having a superfight with Pacquiao, and an eventual KO loss to him. He would then fade away, or go insane anyway.

Unfortunately, I do not know enough on Darcy to comment.
