What film is there of Ketchel ?

I have highlights of his fight with Johnson, and one of the Papke fights. Ketchel does not look good to me at all. Are any other fights available?

I believe Johnson and Papke IV are the only ones filmed. Those were supposed to be two of his worst showings. I would love to see film of Ketchel-Papke III.

I suggest you watch the little subtle things ketchel does on film. He looks good to me, ahead of his time

Considering that those are the only films modern viewers have to judge Ketchel on, I'd say it's decidedly inconveniant. Actually, Ketchel's dead, so I doubt he gives a **** one way or the other. Anyway, it's pretty much the truth, so I don't know what you're getting at.

Well, if the fourth Papke fight was considered a poor showing at the time then that explains why he doesn't look at all good to me.

Thats why these forums are silly at times,he was a frigging legend in his day,had unreal power, there is not enough decent film to judge, but going by what ive read on him,its beyond moronic to call him a ****ing "stumble bum",get out of here with that shite,i guess the original poster all so thinks greb is shite going on the footage there is of him(sparing).

Heres a man who was not a heavyweight and who put down the great jack johnson, and though he lost gave him a hard fight, cant see to many middleweights doing that against the heavyweight champion now can you?

Ring magazine the bible of boxing had him at number 6 in 2004 of there all time punchers, something i can well beleive and in just 24 years on this earth he had a record of 52 wins 4 losses, and 4 draws with 19 KOs

Heres a good article http://coxscorner.tripod.com/ketchel.html bloody hell this is just so easy to rip apart any fighter friom the past, its just i cant beleive you can call a guy like stan a bum:patsch, that would make most modren fighters bums to i guess in your eyes

I was the original poster. I never said I thought Ketchel was shite, I'm just saying he doesn't LOOK at all good in the footage I've seen.
Obviously I wouldn't expect a middleweight to shine against that version of Jack Johnson. But it doesn't surprise me to hear that Ketchel's showing in the Papke fight was considered poor, as I thought he didn't look good, he doesn't look good on that film.

I agree that there's no way he should be called a stumble bum, and yes, he was definitely a great fighter. That's precisely why I asked if there's other fights on film. The existing footage certainly doesn't even begin to do him justice.

Ok sorry you did not call him a bum,but when people say stuff like that i cant help but freak out.

Also some of that footage and film is poor,if we could have multiple angles and slow motion like now,no doubt it would look far better,a lot of old stuff is very stop start and seems either rushed or jerky.Any way hes one of my fav old timers, and i will defend his honour as far as i can

Ketchel didnt give Johnson a hard fight Jack tagged him a couple of times and grabbed him to keep him upright ,it was a barney.Ketchel had serious power you would have been better of mentioning the two times he kod OBrien.

He did put jack down though, and though ive heard they had a plan to go along for a number of rounds, and jack would take it easy on him,but stan decided to belt him one decking him because he was not expecting it,at which JJ thought enoughs enough and KOed him,im not so sure, pretty easy to say after it happened, any way i love stan, and he aint no frigging bum
