How does the iron chinned , murderous punching Ketchel do against Cleveland Willams ? Does Ketchel's ferocious skills to overcome the dangerous but flawed Williams ...?
Only joking But sorry stick man Stan doesn't have even a snow balls hope in hell against the Big Cat - if his bogus match with Johnson had've been a real fight (and Johnson had had the freedom to) he probably would've killed Ketchel in the first. In know Bob Satterfield blasted Cleve out but he was a beast as far as punching power goes - Jake Lamotta said he hit like Tyson - and with all due respect to Ketchel - he didn't have that kind of power or strength - he really was just a middleweight
Why is this a mismatch ... Ketchell was a killer puncher, had a great chin and exceptional stamina while Williams folded up against big punchers and his chin was questionable ?
Come on,let the guys know your building up to a logical case against marciano beating bruno because weight matters...:smoke
I guess it would if you believe Rocky exists in a plane separate from all other fighters . I do not so I am drawing like kind comparisons .. Ketchell is giving up fifty pounds to Williams. Marciano is giving up 55 to Bruno. I certainly do not think Marciano was braver, tougher, had more stamina or was harder hitting than Ketchel in a P4P basis. Williams like Bruno was a big puncher with a shakey chin and questionable stamia. There are easily half a dozen highly knowledgeble guys here, at least. who are huge Marciano fans who feel Marciano easily beats Bruno even though Rocky never fought anyone close to his size or skill set ... so I ask, why is this not a legit question?
I cant see how anybody would think Marciano would win easily, I dont know I havent really been in that thread since I posted my prediction which was Bruno being stopped late after controlling the early part of the fight and possibly having Marciano down. I think his chin rescues him and he eventually wears Bruno down but its one of the hardest fights of his career if not the hardest. I'm sure Marciano would put on some extra weight to fight Bruno so the difference in size wouldnt be that vast.
It's a legit question. I dont know enough about Ketchel and Williams to really comment. I certainly dont consider Rocky to exist on a plane seperate from other fighters. There have been aggressive come-forward fighters who've gone in against far bigger and strong-punching fighters (giving away upwards of 30 and 40 pounds) so I dont feel like I'm living in some sort of fantasyland to credit Rocky with the ability to do so, against certain fighters. Bruno happens to be one that I'd expect to succumb to Rocky's style and aggression. I believe Bruno would be a hurtful and serious assignment for the Rock, it wouldn't all be plain sailing, but the overall look of the fight I think it would be fairly one-sided mauling in Rocky's favour. Whether that should be described as an "easy" or a "tough" fight is a matter of semantics. I've given enough in-depth analysis and reasons to back up my opinion, and it is just an opinion. But I'm quite confident i know what I'm talking about with these two particular fighters. If you said Marciano v. Lewis, Foreman, Liston, Ruddock ? I'd give four totally different breakdowns again. I'm not just saying "Rocky was great ! Size be damned !" ...... I've explained it more deeply. I hope.
Agree wholeheartedly with unforgiven on the Bruno-Marciano match btw haha can't beleive he grant felt so agreived to the extent of this haha what is it with Marciano?! He really gets peoples blood boiling? Especially on the weight thing - it's ridiculous really - Bruno should never have needed to be any more than the 228 he was for Tyson 1 anyway btw - big deal he put on a stone and a half (roids?) - who gives a damn? He was still the same fighter just older - question for he grant - do you think the 193 jones of the ruiz fight beats frank?? I'm genuinely interested let me know
I do not think that the Jones of Ruiz beats Bruno, no way .. Rocky, truly just looking for guys thoughts on similar match ups that do not include Marciano ... but I did not read your pick here . Also, this is not directed to any one poster ... I'm truly interested in a general consensus ...
I will be hosest with you here. I wouldn't bet any money on Frank Bruno beating Tommy Burns never mind Rocky Marciano. He simply wasn't that good. I can understand why people may have trouble picking Rocky Marciano over Lennox Lewis or Sonny Liston but nobody should have any trouble picking him over Frank Bruno.
Me too janitor - I personally don't think the jones of the ruiz would've had much trouble with Bruno either - that was a master at work - no way is Bruno good enough to beat that - size might be one thing but greatness outweighs anything else once you're in that ring - even over here in England (not sure where you're from he grant?) we've never been under any illusion that Bruno was ever anything more than a manufactured fighter who froze against the best and got stopped when he got tired of lugging all that bulk around
