A battle between a legend and a fighter who would have became one...

World middleweight championship scheduled for 20 rounds.

Question: Is Darcy considered a linear world middleweight champion (1916) ?

    Bump it up.
I wanted to dig this one back up to see if anyone had an opinion(?)
It's a hard fight to pick between the early greats...Will any of our resident boxing historians take a shot at it?

Good fight, I think Darcy outboxes Stanlry early, shakes off ketchel's blows with his unbreakable jaw.... wears Ketchell down with a never ending body and head assault and scores a late-ish KO. Well that's one possible scenario to get your thread going. I have thought about this match-up for years....... I think Darcy is too fast, and un-KO-able.

Ketchel has the record and resume to be a very warm favourite but Darcy looks much better on film than Ketchel does and I mean a LOT better.

Going by reputation you'd favour Ketchel but Darcy on film (going by the Chip footage here, which is very impressive for the time) looks better in every aspect to me especially defensively and his inside attack.

I have only seen Ketchel against Johnson (where he was physically outmatched) and the 3rd Papke fight but he just doesn't look that good in these battles. Clearly he was better than that because his record is sensational but the eye sees what it sees and going by that I favour Darcy.
