Strange match-up that just popped into my head, I don't know why. Ketchel is remembered as a middleweight but he fought at 154 pounds against Mike Sullivan. Who wins if they fought at around light middleweight? Oscar has a hard chin, but I don't think he's fought anyone with power comparable to Ketchel, not even Tito. Any thoughts?
Papke and Oscar are very different. Also, it's well documented that Papke began his onslought with a cheap shot, followed with a punch to the throat. To his credit he was able to keep his advantage and do enough damage to Ketchel in that first round that he couldn't recover, and it still took Papke 12 rounds to finally put Ketchel down. In their rematch Stanley was properly motivated and dominated Papke the whole fight, even predicting the round he'd put Papke away, and making good on it.
i know how the fight went down, i was just saying it is possible to knock the man out. oscar does have good power and a sneaky left hook. i wouldnt bet that oscar would win i am just trying to validate someone elses opinion. like i said i would bet ketchel as well
You're right, Ketchel was knockout-able, but the only two times it happened were from an elongated beating and from a helacious right hand with a 200+ pound man behind it. I don't think Oscar has the agression or the power to keep Ketchel down. A knock down would be possible, though. What kind of fight do you think Hoya would put up before the knockout and how long do you think he'd last?
i think he would put on a good showing for himself, i dont think there is anyone out there who can just go in and dominate hoya hes to good of a fighter. that being said i think he outboxes stanley fairly easy in the early going but pays a price everytime a punch lands with it eventually being to much idk mid to late round ko
Pretty much the way I see it. I think that even though Hoya would outbox him, I don't think he'd be in control of the fight at any point, and be fighting an uphill battle from the start. I figure Ketchel would get him out of there in the middle rounds
Ketchel wins by KO. Any middleweight that has the power to deck Jack Johnson must be something else. Could you picture Oscar knocking down the heavyweight champion? I can't. And I know there will be a reply that will say "BUT KETCHEL COULDN'T KEEP HIM THERE!" Wouldn't it have been fun to see how Ketchel would have done against Hopkins. I bet he would have done a whole lot better than De La Hoya did in their mismatch.
