Chávez pressuring, but not committing to his jab. Flashing it out backhanded, sometimes in multiples, but sort of going through motions with it rather than using it to set up offense. Nieves is backing up and tossing wide hooking combos jumping in to get off the ropes. Nieves getting caught and neck moved like a Pez dispenser when he initiates exchanges. Chávez's power starting to really tell. Nieves hurt at the bell.

Nice sneaky left hook lead by Chávez, showed a jab and instead took a quick extra sliding step inside and flung his fist around Nieves' right wrist to smack him snug on the jaw. Matter of time, I think. Better part of four rounds left to go and the boricua has started looking very fragile already.

 

10-9 and 30-27 Chávez, again had Nieves looking almost ready to crumble.

 

Nieves has maybe the weakest neck I can remember ever seeing in a boxing match. Even grazing jabs from Chávez have it snapping backward violently. Guy's a human bobblehead toy.

Chávez ripping the body with uppercuts, in no rush. Dominant shutout, 40-36 now, but still feels like he could (and should) get the stoppage. Nieves game and just cagey enough to keep forestalling the inevitable.

First knockdown from a body shot, unsurprisingly, a looping right on the ribs. Second was from a doubled up chopping right on the side of the head as soon as they resumed - Nieves was already diving onto the canvas face-first the moment he felt the first one. Chávez gave him one to grow on.
