Yes, the best fighters will always have their fair share of haters but there's no real valid reason for any true boxing fan to hate Loma or not to respect him even if they don't care for him and his style. He's literally everything that's right and great about the sport. He's the rare breed of true legacy fighter who has been taking risks right from the get-go like few others and he still is to this day. And unlike so many others he does so on a completely level playing field with no advantages, be they fair or unfair, wangled in his favour at the negotiating table or on a playing field which is stacked against him.

People keep ignoring the fact that he turned pro at 25.5 y/o and had he turned pro in his teens like many others he would've been a six-weight or seven-weight champion and he's completely maxed out at 135, a weight class that one too many where the size disparity is just too much to overcome. Twink was able to overcome Barrios in his third weight class 140 but never had any intention of hanging around at 140 and facing the top dogs there because they're too big for him.

Floyd brought a lot of the hate on himself with his personality and out of the ring antics, Olu. I agree it was extra extreme and over the top at times but he he did bring an awful lot of it on himself. Fantastic fighter though.

 

Loma isn't cocky. He's actually humble and respectful out of the ring. He's flashy and cocky in the ring but not in a genuinely nasty way. It's just showboating. One of his boxing biggest idols is Roy and whilst Roy's ego is almost as big as Manny's noggin, and he's a sexual deviant and a rooster and dog abuser, he always comes across as very likeable in interviews and I've never considered his showboating as malicious or cruel

But he was injured though and let's not forget that Teofimo and his even more scummy old man had been extremely disrespectful to Loma with zero provocation from Loma's side.

Look at how Loma was royally stitched up against Salido. That was only the 2nd loss he'd ever suffered amateur and pro and he was well within his rights to complain long and hard about not only Salido fouling the crap out of him religiously all night and deliberately missing weight so he could come in way heavier than him, but also the most corrupt ref in the game costing him his unbeaten record by refusing to deduct a single point from Salido for clobbering his plums, hips, thighs and even knees with 50-60 low blows, a large percentage of which were flagrant and in full view of Cole. But he barely complained about it.
