STAR POWER Failing to Draw Significant Interest?

Discussion in 'World Boxing Forum' started by AmericanPsycho, Aug 30, 2011.

  1. An NSAC official recently stated that he hopes the Mayweather-Ortiz fight will start picking up more interest. This is a rather interesting statement. Sure, the main event is a cherrypick and the world is waiting to see if Floyd has aged, but the undercard is ****ing awesome (mainly because of Morales-Matthysse).

Has anyone tracked interest on the fight? Are seats sold out?

There's quite a buzz going on about the fight in Southern California...

The main event is far from a cherry pick.

Besides Pac and Sergio, who was there?

    Cotto? Eh.

I've no idea... according to Floyd he gets some insane payment for that fight, wich of course is based on ppv buys. But we all know how he likes to brag also.

Won't be surprised in the least if this card does badly only because of the notion the main event isn't remotely competitive, while the undercard rocks.

    I wouldn't buy it :bart

the Mexican community will ear this card up with Ortiz, Morales, and Alvarez all on the PPV. Meanwhile Floyd always sells.

Cotto would have looked like a huge cherry pick with what Pac did to him.

Ortiz quit vs Maidana but got his **** back in the berto fight.

Cotto got his ass beat by margarito (possible cheat) and Pac.

  8. Cotto's a bigger name than Ortiz and I'd honestly say he's a bigger threat in the ring. Not as fast, but more technically sound, not as hard-hitting but with a very stiff jab. Mayweather-Cotto would outsell Mayweather-Ortiz by a considerable margin. But Floyd knows who won't put in a devastating beatdown (he'll win a UD) and being at 154 means that Sergio will be gunning for him with all systems go.

Cotto is a slightly bigger name and I would debate with you on being a bigger threat. I've never thought his style would give Mayweather fits. He's open for the uppercut and Mayweather would thrash him with them. He'd **** Cotto up. I honestly think it'd be a toned down version of Gatti-Mayweather.

And I dont think Mayweather-Cotto outsells Mayweather-Ortiz by considerable margin.

I love Sergio and totally understand why he wants the fights, money. He deserves it, but he beats Mayweather and Pac with ease.

Well it happens to be Mexican independence weekend so you know it will sell big. Thats why PBF fights on Either May or September. He knows who pays his bills.

tbh, I'm not very interested by the main event nor the Alvarez fight, but Morales vs Mathysse I think is a really great fight right now. A sort of Duran vs Barkley.

Cotto actually has a fanbase, Ortiz doesn't. Not even my peoples who casualy watch boxing even know who Ortiz is but they know Cotto. Ortiz has never headlined a PPV while Cotto as been in the main event on PPV at least 4 times. Cotto has a Mosley win and TKO of Judah on his record. Ortiz only has a UD of Berto on his.
