If you have a good looking kid who waltzes into your gym, you see he has ambition, you see that hes a quick learner, and "oh ****"...he can punch hard and "oh ****"....he can move quick, has cat-like reflexes and "oh ****" he has charisma and is good with the ladies.... supposed you got this good looking, ambitious, hard hitting, quick slick, brawling stud to turn professional and you dont really want to see him hurt, but you want him to make you AND him more money with less risk...so you line up a bunch of janitors and car dealers to look good against...you sale highlight knockout reals with this young handsome guy knocking out some skinhead from alabama...so the network buys it and gives you a contract for you and YOUR fighter...your kid becomes a STAR...h.b.o picks him up, cuz his good looks and knockout reels look convincing...you set him up with a "safe" trial horse like a Ben Tackie or a Yori Boy Campas...your shinning star suddenly dims to nothing when an overhand right distorts that boyish face then to pancake onto the canvas....that boy later tries to "comeback" and once again gets overwhealmed by a journeyman on ESPN and theyll call it an "upset"...back then, more promoters worried about creating "STARS"...you hear it all the time..."the next Arturo Gatti" "he reminds me of a young Oscar" "Hes the next Tyson" ...then all that goes to **** when these "stars" eat their first loss...then they become a working man, only to be reduced down to either a gatekeeper or a tune up...Lately promoters have been focusing more on making great "FIGHTS" rather than "STARS"...they realize that with great fights, even the loosers become winners...TAYLOR gained mad fams after that beating he took, hes alot more marketable now than he was when he won two straight chess matches in a row from HOPKINS...the MARQUEZ bros in defeat solidified their spots in history with 3 losses between them....JADON CODRINGTON!!! I thought he was over rated but after that slugfest knockout loss to BIKA, i gained alot of respect towards him and im looking forward to seeing his next fight...having a big fat ZERO on your "loss" section only means that you havent been in ALL sides of the fight game...alot of fighters are exceptions like PAVLIK and MAYWEATHER and CALZAGHE...they FIGHT like theyre undefeated...they dont have that zero because they faced only stiffs...im sorry but JC CHAVEZ JR. comes to mind...i love his fights, his father, but really, who has he beaten??hes not undefeated because his skill level is like that of FLOYD or JOE CALZ...the Heavyweight division also comes to mind...weve been looking for so long, "whos the next heavyweight heroe"?? who gives a ****?? whos the Jr Middleweight heroe??? I dont care...all I care is that I see a great fight and the fighters I pay to watch, give me what I paid for...its like the lightweight division, Diaz, Katsidis, Casamayor, Diaz and out of nowhere Campbell and Do you see me getting mad because the Lightweight scene is unclear?? NO!!! because cleaning it up is the fun part...****..at the end, the lightweight king might end up being Edwin Valero...thats the fun part....we want a great heavyweight leader but forgot about the good fights weve had in that division like "Golota / Mollo" "Brewster / Liakhovich" "Klitschko / Peter" "Valluev / Chagaev"..if they want the heavyweight division to pop, lets forget about finding ONE champ cuz we tried that, it aint gonna happen, lets focus on making the heavyweight division THE HEAVYWEIGHT DIVISION...match ups like PETER VS. BREWSTER, VALUEV VS. KLITSCHKO, CHAGAEV VS. POVETKIN, GOLOTA VS. TUA??...I dont know, but im ok without them... all I know that the action is Cruiserweight DOWN....we shouldnt worry about turning a fighter into a cash cow,..think of big stars like Gatti, Hoya, Pacquiao, Ali...4 great fighters with "22" losses between all of them...to show you that there were no easy pickings here yet their house hold names....i have no point to this, just a random gathering of boxing words...see u on the next JERMZ BOXING TALK....
I am more a fan of the fighters than the fights I must say(most of the time), but I see where you're coming from.
Thats a good post, I think the bold letters hurt my eyes a bit, but your right, that does seem how it happends alot of times, look at Lacy, 2 years ago he was viewed as the Tyson of the Supermiddleweight division, now he's just a hype job or a big bust if you will.
