I started boxing at 18, 2 years on I have had 13 amateur contests. I aim to turn professional one day, do you think I started the sport too late to make it big in the professional ranks? I am not the most talented boxer/quickest learner, but I train very hard and practice my technique an awful lot!

    Martinez started at 19

But he was already very athletic and physically fit at that age..

It's not too late. See how you handle people who have been at it for longer...you might be naturally talented..or pick up stuff very fast. Try and find people to spar with the same age as you (19-23) who are the same weight BUT have been doing it for longer to see how to handle them...you really have to commit to it if you want to make something out of it...and don't have expectations to become something or make a living off it although that is always a possibility.

Also if you make it and become champ you owe me $10,000.

You need targets. Martinez went 39-2 in his amateur bouts. Losing once by KO and once by Majority decision. Try and emulate that. Obviously be the judge of the level of talent you are fighting so don't be discouraged if you lose to a guy who is pretty darn good.

Doesn't really matter if you have no self confidence.

I'm 27. If I wanted to start a new sport tomorrow and go as far as I can then I'll do it, no matter my age. I also wouldn't need random names on an Internet forum for reassurance and encouragement.

In other words just get on with it.

Look my guy. Just go for it, **** I won't be able to start till I'm 20 because of this court mandated program but I've been studying the sport and fundamentals since I was 17.

On another note. Don't let any of these **** suckers convince you otherwise just because you asked on a boxing forum if you could. That means jack sh*t. It's a lot like asking a baking forum is you can bake _______ with _______ in my mind. Sometimes people look for advice, doesn't mean they're not serious about it.

That's far too old. You should be playing video games or something.

Remember a guy walking into the gym, 23 never boxed. Plus he had broken his left arm 3 times. 4 years later He was British and Commonwealth champ with a 23/ 18/ 0 record, you can never tell whats going to walk through the door.

Give me an example and I'll tell you the reason.

You're on a forum where guys ***** and cry when they don't get the response they expected, Ali is a prime example.

I was stating a fact, not an insult.

I find it funny that you're trying to act the big man, insulting people and attempting to give advice when you had a thread asking the exact same question around 3 weeks ago.
