Right well i started boxing last week, loving it thus far. Im 22 6'4 about 185 i'd say. Just wondered if anyones got any tips. Even with the basics or abit of advice im not looking to fight or anything ( well atleast not for a good few months) just loving learning the sweet science.
Cue advice on how to master "the Philly shell","cross-armed defences"and "Mayweathers shoulder roll"...
Do not under any circumstances underestimate how much body shots can hurt. Always keep your ribs/kidneys protected.
im waiting to start myself, but my backs in a real state, went for x-rays this week to find out what the problem is, once thats sorted i'll be on my way although starting at 28 with a big nose i may struggle a bit
Dont be afraid to ask. Everyone starts somewhere and sometimes trainers just dont have the time to go around everyone and check that everyone is doing the basics right. They'll pick up on it at some point, but better to get in there first. Quiz the trainer on your stance, guard and how to throw a basic straight left and right. I'm sure they'll be able to talk you through everything and then once you've got those nailed you'll just keep learning. Listen to everything you're told by your trainer. Listen to nothing that is said on here.
I hadnt read any posts, apologies. All i mean is, you read all kinds of sh!te on here at times. I'm sure people have the best of intentions but no one can be sure that the person giving the advice isnt 24 stone, 5'3" and the most excercise that they get is trying to wipe their own @rse. If there are coaches at his gym, they'll do much more for him than any keyboard advice. As it happens though, agree with what you said...
Nah, I was only taking the ****. I see where you're coming from. People will be telling to replicate SRR's bolo-punch and throw in some of Whitaker's head movement if he wants any success. I just tried to give some basic advice based on my own experiences. Coaches are the people to go to if you want to get into intricacies.
I'd work on my Fitness, as LP said. I tend to get tired when training as it's not up to par, so a lot of Fitness training, Cardio etc etc.
master your stance, your jab, straight right and left hook and then work on the uppercuts. never use the flash **** and listen to your trainer.
The one reason I want to box is to learn to use the jab. I'm fascinated by fighters like Witter or Malignaggi or Lee McAllister, a jab should always be your best weapon.
Couldn't agree more, they are ****ers body shots. My tip is would be do plenty of road work, I never did and paid for it.
