Everything starts from the feet, try and work on positioning your feet correctly. Hands up, elbows tucked in. A straight down the pipe jab.
Listen to the coaches, keep fit and never take anything for granted in it, thats when people get hurt.
Boxing is all about balance. The first thing you want to learn is proper stance and basic footwork. Then learn the jab and straight right. Don't get in the ring without proper protection and having completed some defensive lesions
Just started again (properly this time) myself and its my fitness thats killing me. I have all these good intentions but its hard to do much when it feels like your arms are lead and that you can barely stand. However, i have noticed that most people at low level have a fascination with head shots and typically jabs rights and left hooks. Last week i was sparring and getting beat all over the shop but then i got up close with my T-rex arms and punished his body inside the guard. If you get the chance ask your coach to teach you a bit of an inside game would be my advice from someone in a similar position
Not to worry, a few well placed straight rights and that big nose will get closer to your skull. It may have a bend or two, but who's looking!!
Learn proper punching technique, keep your damn hands up, constantly push your fitness levels, and listen to your trainer.
don't be in a rush. learn the basics first, and learn them well. spar when you are ready, not pressured into it. same goes for your first fight. conditioning is often the difference between a win or loss in novice amateurs. most importantly, only do it if you truly enjoy it. and then the joy is in the journey.
this! prsactice the basics lots and lots and lots and m,aster them. too many people get bored of practising the jab and the right cross anmd want to kove onto more advanced thing without getting handle on these. and loads of shadow boxing too! too many people spar when they have **** poor footwork, balance and terrible technique.
I agree about the stance. being able to step, pivot, and other general movements while keeping your stance is so crucial to everything you will do in the ring.
Keep your chin tucked, hands up, left or right foot forward, dont be afraid of getting hit or throwing a punch back. It's all about the fun and putting in some work.
Keep a close guard and learn to defend yourself before going all out offensively. Always rehearse the basics, no matter how dull it seems to get. Keep your punches straight, don't telegraph. Practise footwork, keep it correct and simple again no matter how boring it seems the basics are the most important thing to learn.
guard up at all times. Chin tucked in at all times. hands returning to guard after being thrown at all times. If your tall, practise your jab and footwork in shadow boxing. if your short, practise all punches and headmovment
Get fit train hard and listen to the trainer, i found that you always have to prove yourself before you get a decent time with the trainer so if you get a chance to do some one on one give it a 110%
At your height? Work on your Jab. When your arm is tired? Work on your jab. When you are bored of working on your jab? Work on your jab a little more! When you are about to quit Boxing? Work on hooking off of your jab. :hey Shadow Box too. Go into full "imagine a guy there" mode. Just move around. It works wonders.
