I want to get back into training regularly, with the intention of joining a boxing gym in a couple of months when I should have the opportunity. I did next to no excercise over the previous year and any training I did over the 3 or 4 years before that was very sporadic and informal.

So my main problem is that I cannot remember any of things that I used to do, but they were probably crap anyway. I'd like to build up my general fitness again, improve my strength, and hopefully build a bit of muscle as well since I don't take tremendous joy in being a skinny bugger....but I don't want to be a body builder, just a bit bigger but in an athletic way...if that makes sense?

I've got about 10 weeks before I will be in a position to join a boxing gym. So what do you guys suggest for a basic training regime in the mean time? I have an old weights bench, a barbell, dumbells and running shoes.:D Unfortunately my punch bag went awol when I lent it to someone.

Start off doing some jogging three times a week. Do push ups, pull ups, chin ups, ab workout, lower back work outs and squats. When you start improving keep adding more work outs like burpees, better road work (not just jogging), frog jumps (not sure how to say it in english), use the dumbells for your shoulders and triceps. Those are some of the exercises that first jump to my mind if you want to start training to join a boxing gym. If you're serious about it, work out five days a week, improve your diet if you need to, and I would suggest to work your abs everyday. Pick and choose what excercises to do certain days and stick to it if you want to see results. Also since you're thinking of joining a boxing gym try shadowboxing from now on, I'm pretty sure you can find videos that could help you get started.
