17% of his jabs also cotto landed 17% of his jab only 26% percent of total punches Floyd landed, he missed ALOT and often .... I was a bit shocked at the percentages .... My question is this .... Who is better defensively cotto or canelo,I say canelo... I honestly expect Floyd to miss often .... In a pretty damn good fight... I favor Floyd to win but this is boxing nothing will shock me...
Styles make fights. Cotto had one of the best jabs in boxing, which is Mayweather's kryptonite. That punch alone made the difference. Ginger's gonna get schooled.
I dont go by punchstats which I believe are often inaccurate. Mayweather did land a lower percentage vs Cotto as compared to other fight, but he also exherted more power vs Cotto. He did'nt strictly have his mind to box him. Vs Cotto, Mayweather was'nt the conservative safety first fighter he often is. Mayweather was actually loading up throwing wide looping punches, and he was landing quite alot of them. Cotto had Mayweather right in front of him and could'nt do much when you would think he would have benefited from the fight turning into a brawl. Almost certainly these are not the tactics Mayweather will use vs Canelo, if he does, he's going to lose his 0!
I don't think that how Mayweather fought Cotto has any bearing on the Canelo fight. People are really reaching when they say Cotto gave Floyd problems. Floyd did essentially what he wanted. Granted, he paid a bit more, but he busted Cotto up, and like previously stated, Cotto has a really great jab. Seriously, people underrate this guys boxing ability. His jab is freaking great. Varied, intelligent, sharp, fast, it's really impressive, and yet, all it resulted in was a bloody nose. It was a great effort put on by Cotto, but it was simply not enough. Canelo is not as good as Cotto. I really believe this. Cotto is a sharper, better fighter. Canelo still has a lot of growing/learning to do, and he will be really great. The kid is sharp as hell. But right now, he is not at the level required. I honestly can't say with confidence that he could be Cotto.
Mayweather boxed Cotto's ears off I think, one of his best performances. He actually stood there in the pocket, took some shots but you can't stand in the rain and not get wet. Much more impressed when Mayweather fights like that than when he gets on his toes and pot shots the **** out of someone. Looks much more impressive when he gets more involved even though the stats will suffer, the actual performance is much better I think. Is Canelo better than Cotto... well we're going to find out !!
That's what I'm talking about. I want to see a great fight. Hopefully Canelo will bring a great fight out of Mayweather.
Mayweather really stood there and traded in the Cotto fight and fought less safety first than he usually does and gave a more fan friendly fight which got him more touched up than usual. Cotto fought to the best of his ability and performed well but Mayweather is just too good defensively, even fighting the way he did he was still so damn difficult to hit cleanly.
Old way past his prime cotto pizza faced floyd If canelo wasn't a slow 1 punch a round throwing bum he'd own floyd
You need to learn what it means to be pizza faced. After the fight was over and blood was wiped away, Floyd didn't have a mark on him. Cotto on the other hand was definitely battered and bruised.
Floyd did what he wanted? Not even close. I thought Mayweather won super clearly but you just got to listen to what he said after the fight in one clip I saw of some documentary ("30 days in may" I believe). From what he says, it seems like it was a grueling fight. Not indicative of doing "what he wanted". Cotto didn't win many rounds but that doesn't tell the whole story, Cotto was competitive in every round but ended up losing the majority of them.
Good point.....even Oscar had control of the fight until he abandonned the jab. After that it was down hill for him. If Canelo employs the same jab as Cotto then it could get interesting!
Canelo loads up too damn much. I watched the trout fight closely and canelo's was reduced to a straight right hand all night, except maybe a couple hard jabs time to time. Mayweathers jab to the body will be the key, because it will slowly zap canelo's energy round by round and allow him to tee-off. Mayweather will embarrass canelo, mark my words.
