Statistically speaking, is Mayweather the boxer most closest to perfection?

Put ATG status aside for a moment which is a complicated formula of resume, aura and luck of the era.

Very few boxers in the winter of their careers are undefeated, even fewer have never been knocked down (officially). When we get down to a granular level and start talking about boxers who have lost very few rounds or who have rarely been hurt is there anyone comparable to Mayweather?

The fella's on the final straight of his career, IMO, and I can't even pass an informed judgement on his chin as it's never properly been tested.

Is he setting a precedent here or are there other examples of boxers who have a better 'granular' record.

Let's try and steer clear of discussion around the politics of the career. I'm genuinely interested in boxers who just have an incredibly impressive career, statistically.

Mayweather's never been bruised up, dizzy/semi-conscious or cut up after a fight. I think that speaks for itself.

What statistics are you looking at? You've just mentioned a bunch of factors.

The only hard numbers we have are his numerical record of 43-0, and his record of Compubox. But that record has been well surpassed and compubox is historically recent, and also **** as it's inaccurate and inconsistent.

He's the best undefeated boxer in history IMO, if you're willing to place him above Marciano, but many have climbed higher peaks in terms of accomplishments.

A great fighter fighting in a weak era. You have to imagine putting someone like Hearns in todays welterweight-light heavyweight landscape and ask yourself if he ever loses.

He's an excellent boxer. One of the best defensive fighters I've ever seen. However:

Whether it's official or not, he got knocked down by Zab Judah. Granted, it wasn't serious or hurtful, but he did get knocked down, according to the rules of the sport.

You can also argue that Castillo beat him in their first fight, or at least did enough for a draw. It was pretty close.

I'd love to have seen Pep, B. Leonard's stats back in the day. But as far as well rounded-ness goes? There are a few better IMO

No doubt Floyd is a master of defensive style and he has great boxing skills but also is the biggest cherrypicker of all times. ATG cherrypicker IMO . :yep

The list with the fighters that Floyd ducked in their primes / pinnacle.

    # 2008-2009 Pacquiao (ww)
    # 2008 Margarito (ww)
    # 2007 Cotto (ww)
    # 2009 P.W ( 150 or 154 )
    # 2001-2002 Kostya Tszyu (lww)
    # Austin Trout ( after Trout's win over Cotto, Floyd should've challenged Trout @ 154, knowing that Floyd is champion at jr MW too ).

    Fact.

    - he knows very well when to pick his next opponent. :yep
