Looking at it strictly as a heavyweight contender then no. He was well loved nationally and especially in his own community as a good guy with great humility, in fact he became a national treasure. Plus he knocked Ali down, so from the general public’s point of view why not!
I don't know. People can put up statues of anyone they want. I never understood the lovable loser mindset.
He deserves it. He was a national treasure and a very good man. His crushing knockdown of Ali and the controversy that followed it will never be forgotten.
