    Dear Friends
    kind regards
Today we continue with our Step back in time series.
On the eve of Halloween in 2000, we were anticipating a horror story when Mike Tyson and Andrew Golota were set to collide.
We all wondered what would happen, would the two psychos end up biting pieces of flesh off of each other?
However, the intrigue was shortlived on fight night.

    [yt]6yBhZcUVKOE[/yt]

Mike Tyson put Golota on the canvas in round 1 and chased after him for the whole of round 2.
Then Golota simply quit and walked back to the locker room.
What did you make of this match up?
Did you expect the outcome or something else?
If you could give me your opinions A.S.A.P I'd appreciate it.
    yours thankfully
    John

Does Golota ever mention it nowadays? I guess he'd be saying: "Damn, if I stuck in there and wore him down, I would have kicked his ass!"

Don't know what to think, even after all these yrs. Golota looked genuinely pissed. Pissed that Tyson was using his coconut as a battering ram & the ref said not one word about it. Thats what got to Golota. He felt an injustice was done towards him. He gets penalized for fouls, but its OK for his opponent to get away with murder.
The medical report on AG said something about a broken orbit (eye) & something wrong with his neck, but who knows. He didn't do so bad against that crazed animal. He should have hung in there & in 2 or 3 more rounds, Tyson would have been ready to fall.

Definitely a bad night for all boxing fans.

Today Golota would KO a 300 lbs. Tyson in a few rounds.

    Thanks for the memories, Mm.:smoke

i remember when it happened i went over to my uncles about aweek later wanting to see it cause it was taped and i watched it ...i was like man that was a short dumb fight.. and i remember thinking he'd own lewis lol .. i was a young idiot though!

  6. That pissed me off when Andrew quit that fight:-( Golata was no good against guy's that could hit hard, he was waxed and intimidated by Lewis in 1 round then quit against Mike, but hung in there and fought his ass off against guy's like Byrd and Ruiz and Mello, go figure:nut

    Dear JETSKI
    kind regards
    In response to your comments.

I know that you are a Golota fan, but I think that Golota was fighting scared.

Golota vowed before the fight that if Tyson fouled him, then he would foul Tyson.
But I think that Golota was worried about how dirty it would get if that happened.
    Tyson was an animal.
However, I think that it would have been better for Golota to foul and get himself disqualified rather than just quit.

I don't believe in the credibility of that medical report, Golota most likely bribed the doctor so that he could collect his purse.
Golota dodged most of Tyson's punches in those two rounds.

    I agree.
Golota was outboxing Tyson in round 1 before the knockdown and was dodging most of Tyson's punches in round 2.
Golota was being outfought by Tyson, but I noticed that he was outmuscling him in round 2.
All he had to do was step up to the plate, continue to outmuscle Tyson and start throwing punches, he would have beaten Tyson.
I like Golota, but the man lacked the intelligence and forsight to get the job done in the biggest matches of his career.
    yours thankfully
    John

  8. That fight was also ruled a NO CONTEST:deal Because Tyson tested positive for drugs following the fight:-( it was a long time ago if i remember correctly it was Weed OR Cocaine..
I knew in my gut when that fight was made it was a MISTAKE:patsch

I just put out an ALL POINTs BULLENTIN to Joecool on the AG Express, to ask Golota someday what exactly happened that night in the Joe Louis Arena. If JC could get an honest answer on that one, we're talking Major Headlines here!

I don't know if AG was fighting scared. 1st, it took balls just to get in there with Tyson, plus he had this killing machine right in front of him. He did the best he could to survive.

    Nice thread.

With insight, maybe Golota had hung in there, he could have tkoed Tyson in the late rounds but then again, maybe Tyson would have nailed him with another hard punch and win by ko. :think

But, all in all, even if Golota was right about being fouled by Tyson with the referee not doing something about it, the fact that he quit is a disgrace and just another bad night for boxing.

    Dear scorpy
    kind regards
My guess is that Tyson would have desperately tried to take out Golota in round 3.
He would have unleashed all of the stops.
Golota had nothing to lose in terms of his reputation if he fought on.
If Tyson knocked him out in round 3, he would have been beaten fairly by a legend.
My guess is though that Golota would have gotten past round 3 because of his ability to dodge most of Tyson's heavy bombs.
Then it would have been fun because Golota could have tired him out and taken over.
Golota should have fought it out to a finish.
    yours thankfully

But was Tyson past his prime that much ? After all, the Golota fight was before he went on 8 rounds with Lewis. I'm not so sure that Golota would have beaten Tyson even if the fight had gone the whole 12 rounds. But at least, like you said, he would have lost to a legend instead of looking like a scared man.
