    Dear Friends
    kind regards
Today we begin with our Step back in time series in which we will look at a match up from the past and discuss it.
Here is Mike Tyson defeating Trevor Berbick to win the WBC World heavyweight title.

Did any of you watch this match live back in 1986?
Judging by the performance that Tyson gave on this night, how far did you expect him to go in Heavyweight division?
What were your first impressions of Tyson?
If you could watch the match and give me your opinions A.S.A.P I'd appreciate it.
    yours thankfully
    John

I thought tyson was very good and would rule the division for awhile but then poor morls and bad training set in and it went downhill from there.

    I did.
Tyson awesome, future ATG but beat paper champ(A focused in shape Witherspoon would have been very interesting,IMHO).
This Wasnt a Leonard beating Benitez type of title win by any stretch, which isnt Mikes fault.

    Dear surreal deal
    kind regards
People have told me that when Tyson came on the scene that they pretty much knew from the start that he would shake up things in the Heavyweight division.
When Tyson won the title, people were filled with hope that he would bring back glory to the Heavyweight division and he certainly did that.
Tyson was one of the most talented and intimidating men to ever step into the right.
    yours thankfully
    John

At that time the heavies were passing around the 3 belts like sweets so Mike cleaning up the division was a great thing back then. The fight against Berbick was memorable for it's brutal execution but was just the first step.

This version of Mike would of diced up Lewis. He was fast and sharp with his punches. He was countering with combinations...god damn. That right hand over the jab and all of his shots were vicious.

I don't agree, i think mike was a like a scared bully and when stood upyo he wilted, lewis aso beat him up as a child when tyson was a beast.

    Dear hotti_killer
    kind regards
Whilst I like Lennox Lewis, his fight against Mike Tyson means nothing.
Tyson was a washed up old has been in 2002, Lewis was good enouugh to show that in the extreme.
In regards to Lewis beating Tyson when they were younger.
Carl Williams also beat Mike Tyson when they were sparring partners, it means nothing.
    yours thankfully

I diasagree that it means nothing when you have the mental make up of a riddick bowe or a tyson, beating from a fighter at an earlier age can make you fear getting in the ring with them. Tyson and bowe both ducked lewis and i would think a fighter as feared as tyson would have tried to make a lewis fight earlier if he had any real chance.

I remember watching this fight with my Dad back in '86 and commenting that Berbick fell ''like a sack of spuds''. Tyson went on a great run (fighting every few months) and I watched every fight until his victory over Frank Bruno (which was the first fight where he looked vulnerable).

I reckon he lost his motivation after the Spinks victory - that was the last guy given a good chance of beating him at the time. Perhaps if Holyfield was his next fight he'd have stayed motivated a bit longer. Although I'd still pick Holyfield in a GREAT fight.

The first thing I always think off when I see this fight is the Tyson jab. OK, Berbick basically had no jab but still, he is using that shot to hurt his man, a good punch.

Second, the patience. He is so patient in this fight, that's why I think it's his best. There is no flying in thrashing about until the very very end. But it is worth noting that when he does go in for the kill his footwork goes all to ****. Not that it matters in this case with Tyson's most excellent punching.

Tyson had the tools to turn the top 2 into a top 3, I think if he had superior mental attributes he'd have been right up there with Louis and Ali.

I hope that this is the real Moralman, the imposters have taken his account again and again, sadly.

But anybody can see that Tyson was a phenom, a supernatural fighter with incredible speed, precision, defence and of course punching power. I wish he was around today, his out of ring antics were also entertaining, almost on the level of a professional wrestling heel.:yep

Are you ****ing kidding?? "Almost"? What proffessional wrestler was so commited to his role as a heel that he fought and ****ed his way straight into prison?? I've yet to see Paul Bearer put a ****ing gun in the Undertakers ear.

Tyson was far, far to real.
