    Dear Friends
    kind regards
Today we continue with our Step back in time series.
I was going to highlight a great legendary Ali fight tonight, but I put it to one side to highlight Tyson's laughable roadshow of England back in 2000.
There was so much hype about Tyson coming over here in the UK, the women who apart of **** prevention organizations opposed him coming over here.
Jack Straw gave Tyson a visa though and the freak show rolled into town.
Tyson was mobbed by the Scots, northerners (now why doesn't that surprise me?) and by the negro population of Brixton.
Tyson also went to pray at a Mosque in a show of humble abode, then ended up giving Frank Maloney a black eye over jewellery.
If there was one thing more laughable than the tour itself, it was the matches that took place.

    Mike Tyson versus Julius Francis.

    Mike Tyson versus Lou Savarese

    Part 1.

    [yt]OAPTpE4W6RA[/yt]

    Part 2.

    [yt]fEOZZVWKU1g[/yt]

Tyson ended the tour by threatening to eat Lennox Lewis's children.
I stupidly paid to watch both of these fights on Sky Box Office and felt conned.
Tyson shouldn't cry like a baby, he got paid millions to fight these muppet fighters like Francis and Savarese.
What did you think of the Tyson circus rolling into the UK and the two matches that he had?
Did the roadshow live up to the hype?
Or do you think that you were conned of £30 pounds to see two laughable matches?
If you could watch the matches and get back to me with comments A.S.A.P I'd appreciate it.
    yours thankfully
    John

I paid £150 for a decent seat to the Tyson-Francis fight in Manchester. As a sporting event it wasn't worth a tenth of that but I figured beforehand that would be the case (they sold sponsorship on the soles on Francis' boots). It was good to be able to say I went though.

    Dear GazOC
    kind regards
You make me feel lucky, at least I only spent £15 pounds on watching that Boxing squash match.
In a sense, Julius Francis was a winner because he took home a comfortable paycheck, but what a pathetic performance!
Francis gave Tyson a mean staredown at the weigh in and promised us that he was going to win.
It was obvious that Francis was just a push over and it showed.
This is one of the reasons why I don't feel sorry for Tyson.
He cries like a little baby about his bad luck in life, how many people get paid £40 million pounds to go one round with some weakling?
A man like that deserves little sympathy regardless of his contributions to the sport.
    yours thankfully
    John

He gave Frank Warren a black eye. I heard he held Warren outside a hotel window high up.

    Dear Fat Joe
    kind regards
Yes, Tyson's assault of Warren was reported in the Newspapers at the time.
Tyson acted like a moron when he came over here and was mobbed by morons as well.
Scots, Northerners and Brixton natives cheered for their "hero" Tyson.
These same people are probably on the waiting list for a council house or at least an appearance on the Jeremy Kyle show.
If there is one thing more pitiful than a moron, it is the followers of a moron.
    yours thankfully

Warren never misses the opportunity to have a little sly dig back when he writes his column for The Sun. In fact he had a little pop today.

Ah, I thought you were honestly looking for peoples recollections of Tysons tour. Now I see its just a lame bashing thread.

    Dear GazOC
    kind regards
I am looking for peoples recollections of the tour.
But if you want to class this as a bashing thread then so be it.
What was there not to bash about Tyson's circus roadshow appearing over here?
I am still angry over the fact that I spent money on watching this freak show.
But I would like opinions on the matches too.
    yours thankfully

I remember that a member of Tyson's entourage, the trash talking "Crocodile" got a lot of press coverage. I remember Francis saying he had enough of his antics so he scared him off, either by giving him the evil eye or with verbals - I can't recall.

Also I remmber Francis being army trained, saying he'd never been fitter and that he was gonna put it on Iron Mike.

And lastly I remember that Iron Mike banged Big Brother Z-lister Aisleyne. Whether that was on this visit or a later one I don't recall.

The fights were both poor but I was at a small piece of British boxing history, I don't regret buying the ticket and I certainly wouldn't be banging on about 15 lousy quid for the PPV 8 years later.

Not being a Daily Mail reader, Tysons antics didn't send me into a frenzy of writing "whats the world coming to" letters to my MP.

Glad to see you back on the boards Moralman :good

Well i went to see both shows and in all honesty i didnt mind paying the money to see the fights as how often do you get to see a living legend of the sport fighting on british soil?

People complained about the fights but at the end of the day, when you go to see a Tyson fight what do you expect, a 12 round technical boxing show or a few rounds of destruction?

I have no regrets at all as in 30 years time i can say to my grandkids that i saw mike tyson live, knocking the **** out of guys in the flesh.

Both those fights are night i will remember for the rest of my life and im happy that i saw them and wouldnt change a thing about it.

At the end of the day, thousands of people got to see possibly the most famous boxer of all time kick ass on our shores, no matter what all the detractors say.

People should be privilaged to see such an icon of the sport in the flesh in person doing what he does best which is knock **** out of his opponents.

I for one feel that way!

i think everyone knew that tyson would put francis away in quick time.
the fact that he came to the uk was good for the boxing fan who wanted to see tyson in the ring and go away to say in future years that "i see tyson box"
we got to remember whatever his behaviour was like outside the ring, inside he was once a formidable champion!!!!!

Dear The Exile and columbo man
    kind regards
I am glad that you were happy with Tyson's UK appearances in 2000.
Those appearances are a great example of the media's ability to sway people.
The fact is that Tyson was living off of his reputation, the media hyped him endlessly even though his best days were behind him.
Thank God that Lennox Lewis eventually got rid of him.
    yours thankfully

These fights were "set ups" to make Tyson look like a destroyer again - somewhat similar to some of the fights he had on his way up in the 80s, btw, particularly after the Green and Tillis fights. The difference was that this time, Tyson's ability to annihilate anything other than low-level competition was an illusion - an illusion these fights were VERY successful in perpetuating.
