    Dear Friends
    kind regards
Today we continue our Step back in time series.
Sonny Liston was a mean man, a tough thug who did away with his opponents in quick time.
Liston got his chance to become heavyweight champion in 1962 and destroyed Floyd Patterson.
Here is the match up in its entirety.

Patterson tried to get revenge a year later, but the same outcome was repeated.

What do you make of these two matches?
If you could kindly watch these two matches and get back to me A.S.A.P I'd appreciate it.
    yours thankfully
    John

Interesting if Frazier, who weighed 15 pounds more than Patterson, might actually have been able to fight inside with Liston.

The best pair of wins in the history of the HW division, that simple. Patterson is an ATG HW, unquestionably top 25, Liston is top 5 for me. Sonny could do it all, box and punch - he was short of speed though.

MM, any chance of something other than HW's for the step back in time series?

Liston was another man you could not fight going forward -- I believe Frazier would have been at an even greater stylistic disadvantage than against Foreman, for Sonny fought better, and rougher, inside. He also had that weighty jab.

It's a shame the match is rarely debated -- but Tyson versus Liston would be a tantalizing matchup to analize as well. On gut, I would go with Liston simply because I cannot see Mike backing him up, and Liston demonstrates here he knows how to time a crouching fighter with uppercuts.

Mike's advantahe in speed of hand and foot would make it interesting, though. I think Liston has a hell of a jaw, though. He has that kind of physique and balance.

They are among the least competitive title matches among two HW champions in the history of the division. Floyd Patterson had probably the weakest chin among legitimate HW champions, and Liston was one of the harder punchers. The outcome of these fights was pre-ordained the moment they were signed.:yep
