    Dear Friends
    kind regards
Today we continue with our Step back in time series.
Razor Ruddock was a hard hitting and formidable heavyweight, he had a great list of knock outs.
Ruddock's best matches were usually against opponents who could hit as hard as he could.
In 1995, Ruddock met Tommy Morrison in an explosive encounter.
Here it is for your viewing pleasure.

    Part 2.

    Part 3.

Both men get knocked down and throw heavy punches throughout, it is the absolute definition of war.
Do any of you remember watching this match at the time?
If you could all watch this match and give me your opinions I'd appreciate it.
    yours thankfully
    John

Razor Ruddock hit the canvas like a sack of ****.

    One question comes to mind.

How in god's name did he manage to beat the 10 count after that?

    Side note, early stoppage.

Razor was a very hard hitter and so was Tommy but like a lot of hard punches they were very suscepible to getting hit themselves. Ruddock was very often dropped, Weaver , smith, Tyson and Lewis managed it but Morrison also had had his fair share of ups and downs, Carl Williams gave him a handful, Joe Hipp too , Ray Mercer almost killed him and Mike Bentt caught him cold. It was a destined to be explosive fight and it proved just that..

What happened to the heavies. Neither of those two were even the creme back then, and neither was that era... but comparing it to now...

Incompetent referees blow. I really wish that fight could have finished naturally. Boy, do I miss those times.

Heh , very nice, I havn`t seen that in ages.

2 things. I forgot just how good Morrisons lefy hook was and in the 2nd clip in the beginning of the 4th round he throws a sweet 2 or 3 punch body then one upstairs combination. 3:39 into the clip.

I watched the match in a bar in Maine, and yeah, it was a real donnybrook. I thought Ruddock was gonna win, but he was more faded than I thought, and his chin turned out to be every bit as shaky as Tommy's.

One thing about Tommy Morrison - he wasn't a great fighter certainly, but he was an entertaining one. In a Morrison fight, you were virtually guaranteed that SOMEBODY was gonna hit the deck!

Haha yeah, he looked absolutely fine when he got up, no wobbles or anything. Didn't even need close to the 10 count for it.

    **** stoppage, great fight though.

One important thing to bear in mind - this fight was only a few days removed from the death of a boxer due to a late stoppage (I'm sorry I can't remember the name...), and I think that influenced the ref here.

The KD was obviously legit. The second one, well, Ruddock was doing nothing but cover up on the ropes while Tommy threw so I'd call that one too. The third one is the doubtful one...on the one hand Ruddock seemed okay to continue, on the other hand his head snapped right back from a left and refs always hate to see that.

Given the circumstances at the time I can understand why it was stopped.

And no-one knows how Ruddock got up, no! The best guess was the impact on the canvas kinda woke him back up...
