Not sure what the hell Top Rank or Eye of the Tiger were thinking putting green middleweight prospect Alexandre Bigras Gaumont in the co-main event. His opponent, 40 year old Uruguayan glass cannon Walter Andrés "Pitufo" Viera Rodríguez, is 12-8 ...and tbf he's a late sub, but the originally scheduled opponent wasn't really any better or worthier of the headlining slot (Cristian Rodrigo Zárate, who is 10-4)

I refuse to accept the farce of Gaumont vs. Viera being top of the bill; probably going to just bail after the Claggett and Biyarslanov fights.

 

Shamil Abdulaevich Khataev vs. Cristian Rafael Coria, 10 rounds @ super middleweight

 

Coming off a twenty-two month layoff.

He is 6-5 in the last 8½ years, since losing to Daud "Cino" Yordan ...at lightweight.

 

"The Warrior" officially has a 1½" height advantage over "El Zorrito", but looks to be a bit more in reality. Either the listing for Khataev undersells or Coria's exaggerates by at least an inch or two.

 

Not terribly surprised they've dredged up the corpse of a blown up super featherweight to feed Shamil. This was my assessment of him in relation to his brother and their stablemate (coming up later tonight) when he shared a card with the latter in June:

Stand by that. He's nothing to get too excited about.

 

If this goes ten Shamil may as well just retire.

 

Matt Casavant, the unofficial scorer for Punching Grace, has it (correctly) 20-18 for Khataev.

There's just little to say about this. Khataev playing with his food in there.

 

Semi-quick stoppage (Khataev's fourth in fourteen bouts) but academic. TKO3.
