Luis-Eduardo Santana-Salcedo vs. Sebastian Ezequiel Aguirre, 8 rounds @ light welterweight

 

(no relation to Luis Santana who fought a trilogy with Terry Norris, btw)

 

Bananas opener. Santana down early twice, rallied and dropped Aguirre.

 

Commentators in absolute shambles attempting to do the calculus on how to score that on the fly. Stammering out "uh, 9-7, 8-7, 9-8, uh...I mean, that would be just maybe a 10-9 for Aguirre where it would have been a 10-7" (bingo, that last part )

 

Matt Casavant (correctly) scored the 1st a 10-9 for Aguirre.

 

Commentators made a point of noting that Aguirre has only been stopped once, by Steve Claggett.

That was a corner retirement after 9 rounds, and even though he's obviously supposed to be the favorite here it should be said that Santana hasn't fought anybody even half as good as Claggett.

 

Santana pulling ahead 29-28, would be level 28 apiece if not for that comeback KD he scored in the 1st.

 

Explosive round one aside, this hasn't been amazing.

 

Santana has won every round since the 1st on Casavant's scorecard...and just as I am typing out this sentence gets rocked to his core by Aguirre.

 

Santana took a UD over Aguirre.
