***an has the cut reopened above the right eye by another butt on the inside as McNicol ducks and snaps upward. ***an is keeping the jab on McNicol and forcing him to move away or aside, where the ***an jab is the most effectively landing shot between them. McNicol paws out his right jab but can't reach. McNicol brushes his back on the ropes trotting along, then leaps out with a right hook, blocked.

Round 6

***an is rattling 1-2s in behind the jab and swiping with hooks as McNicol backs up, blocks, and ducks. ***an is doing all the work offensively, reaching out to prod McNicol's guard with his jab, getting the measure and needling into it to brace up and then putting in straight rights to the chest to push McNicol back a step before following in with quick combos, barking as he goes. McNicol has adopted something akin to a southpaw version of the shoulder roll, keeping his right arm flat at his side with his shoulder up and chin down, body turned. Nice jabs to the ribs and looping right near the kidney by ***an walking in. They circle and flap jabs at each other, McNicol diving in for a holding reprieve and caught with a left hook on the jaw. Body shots by ***an as they lean together.

Like Vallily, ***an entered today 2-0 without a knockout to his name and exits 3-0 with cherry yet unbroken.

 

***an says by maybe next year he'll be wanting Crolla and the other big names, although he acknowledges he still has a lot to learn as of now.

He says with a smiling mix of disdain and respect that McNicol fought dirty but has a heck of a chin.

He seems a charismatic lad. Real lad's lad, you know.

 

Bradley Saunders vs. Gareth Heard, 8 rounds @ welterweight

 

Round 1

Saunders rushes Heard into the ropes, jabbing and curling both fists into his body at close range. The ref guides them apart, then back out to center. Heard weaves side to side, head locked up in an odd vice-like guard with his palms behind his scalp, wrists crossing at times, and elbows sticking out ahead. Saunders has trouble landing his jab cleanly but is the aggressor, catching Heard with hooks around the guard on the ear as he retreats. Saunders is jabbing and looping in the right hand. Clinch by Heard. Jab into the guard, right to the body by Saunders. Overhand right by Saunders, blocked. Chopping blow to the top of the head inside by Saunders. Uppercut by Saunders as he muscles Heard into the ropes.

Round 2

Saunders is landing the right uppercut from outside, showboating. Left hook to the body by Saunders. Heard is bringing his gloves up to protect his face and crossing his arms while lowering them to intercept body shots. The offense is all Saunders, finding open areas where he can and peppering Heard with shots from mid-range. Jab between the gloves, uppercut to the body by Saunders. They tie up and Saunders clubs with his right hand. Heard is backed into the ropes by a left rip downstairs, as much contact with Saunders' forearm as fist. Heard is backed into the ropes by a 1-2, leaning back to roll with it. Clinch. Heard gets in a short overhand right but is soon backed up again by the busy jabs and uppercuts of Saunders. Heard is sweeping out left and right hooks overhead while ducking and circling. 1-2 by Heard, countered by a left hook as Saunders dips in and leans against him. Heard pushes out of a clinch with a right hand and they immediately tie up again. The ref warns Heard for hitting on the break.

Round 3

Saunders is shimmying to his left and whipping in left hooks on Heard's body. Saunders is keeping his arms low, waving them up and in and then reeling them behind his trunks. Jabs, crosses, and overhands by Saunders, dominating Heard from long range. Odd jab to the body by Heard, but mostly reduced to blocking and clinching.

Round 4

Saunders is plowing Heard with hard left hooks downstairs, then jabbing him in the belly as Heard makes his way to cover on the ropes. Hind is forced to split them frequently as Heard dives in to bury his arms in Saunders's crotch and rest his head on him as it were a pillow. Heard is leaning back on the outside, flipping up left jabs from the hip. Saunders is staying off them and darting in with quick body shots, no receipt. Heard is dropped to a knee by a particularly vicious left above the liver. He beats the count but Saunders is right back at it. Hard body shots by Saunders. Big combination by Saunders, jabbing the face and finishing with a tremendous loudly crunching left downstairs. Heard is backing up and sticking up his jab. Huge left uppercut by Saunders snapping Heard's head back sharply. Heard is down again on accumulation in the corner. He stays on his knees until Hind reaches eight, and Hinds waves it off despite Heard standing.

TKO4!

 

Nope. Heard didn't come across as being completely useless, just outmatched here.
