Stephen Smith vs Lee Selby RBR

Round 1

Smith lands a big overhand right while circling in close, sparking a crowd reaction but not affecting Samuels too badly. They chip away at each other at close range, all four feet in flux. Nip and tuck as they trade short chops to the head and digs to the body. Smith is landing just a bit better. Samuels breaks the Smith guard with a pair of uppercuts. Smith lands a hard right hand to hurt Samuels. The elder comes right back inside and is dropped by a combo!!

He gets up but seems out of it. Smith jumps on him and bangs away with big lefts and rights.

Down again.

Selby/Simpson or Selby/Lindsey are the most likely ones. Think Selby is managed by Maloney so those fights are more likely.

 

Ah. Yeah, the undercard bout wound up being a quick pre-recorded TKO1 and they signed off almost right afterward. I can see your reasoning, though. :good

It's always better to have too much coverage than not enough.

We're seeing Liam up next, against domestic prospect-turned-journeyman Barrie Jones.

Barrie Jones was a very good fighter. He dropped a terrible decision to M'Baye in a fight which he should have won by atleast 3rounds and has been on the way down since.

 

Paul Smith says he wasn't even in the mood to fight after watching what happened to Stephen.

Apparently he assaulted a cameraman? :blood

He says it was disgusting and he then had to go in with a big puncher like Samuels, so he had to mentally block it out and just TCOB. He credits the people in his camp for helping him collect himself and "switch on and stay on".

Round 1

Jones puts out a right jab and covers up as Smith flurries. Jones gets clocked behind the head with a slapping Smith jab. Smith comes forward, body cheated to the right as he avoids the right jab. Body shots by Smith. Jones now tries tossing the right jab up from the hip and gets parried with hammering swipes of Smith's tucked left arm. Smith is pushing the southpaw back and landing to the body, mauling and mugging a bit. Jones gets outside and lands a solid jab, but is shut down as Smith jumps on him and works the body. Smith again slips the jab and lands an uppercut to the stomach. Left hooks to the body, doubled by Smith.

I think this is my first look at Liam, but based on that round he may be the best pure boxer in the family.

 

Round 2

Nice jabs and pendulums from above and below by Smith. Lots of activity, just pitching his fists all around Jones' jab in long countering flurries. Jones is a bit more on target with his right jab but it's all he's landing, and he's giving up ground. He is melting back with his right shoulder drooped down behind him, allowing him to turn his head and make Smith miss. Nice left hand by Jones! Smith starts to bob his way inside with a high guard and side to side motion. Now Smith rips a few body shots. Double right jab by Jones, thumping the gloves of Smith. Nice looping left by Jones behind the jab. Smith flurries to the body and leans in. Jones lands a nice left uppercut after the jab to the gloves, and doubles it.

Round 3

Jones is circling right and staying back, arms crossed at mid level. Smith pokes in with his left jab and feints with the right. Double right jab by Jones into the arms. Big slapping hook by Smith. Right hand. Left hook to the body. Jones is getting smacked around the ring and lands a low blow, seemingly unintentional but could have been a stalling method. Smith starts to back Jones to the ropes with uppercuts! Jones is hurt!! Smith unloads. Overhand right. Left hook to the body. Very hard punches, placed well. Jones is hurt by a body shot and takes a knee!!

He stays down!
