Or out of the common novice boxing scorer "loser improvement fallacy"

It was hard not to score it for Inoue, given that he controlled most of the round, was the aggressor, a lot of his shots were effective, even if they were blocked or didn't land clean. But the takeaway from the round and what was shown between rounds was that great right hand Fulton landed, and seeing him pick off some of Inoue's shots throughout. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with scoring Round 5 for inoue, but that one definitely was closer and at least made you think if that could be a Fulton round. Fulton was on the receiving end of shots down the stretch though, he was blocking well and avoiding damage, but he wasn't exactly keeping up with Inoue's work rate of punches, which was a problem.

That’s not true. Pacquiao was from Philippines and he gets his full credit. He beat a really good fighter and champion in cool boy Steph today.

I noticed from the beginning Inoue's right hand was me lightening fast & his stamina was impressive it never felt he will get tired, good poker face with the basic defense of just moving his head constantly which many boxers don't do as often these days,

What I like was Inoue doesn't wait or freeze up even when he isn't unloading. Combinations he is feinting, jabbing up & down always keeping his opponent guessing with no breaks in-between the biggest thing is not just how strong he is but how he manages to punch through his opponents,

Inoue was just having fun in there before the fight they were showing Fulton's highlights where it made me double think & then this happens, crazy.

If that had been round 1, no one would have even considered scoring it for Fulton. It was only after watching him not even muster the shadow of any offense the first 4 rounds that made it look more competitive

Inoue was uncharacteristically falling short and missing quite widely with some of his power hooks, especially early. Not because Fulton is a defensive wizard but rather because I think he was struggling with the range, except than with the jab of course.

Fulton was able to semi block quite a lot of them too but I really don't think Inoue caught him properly with full power shots upstairs right on the money until the big right hand and left hook which dropped him and it was as good as over as soon as he did.

To be clear I'm not arguing Fulton won it. I'm simply saying it was closer and arguable for him, given the good blocking, and the good right hand.

Closer, not close. And definitely not arguable.

I understand the "he did better, so he won the round" fallacy. I've dealt with that before, and made the same argument you're making. (like Round 4 in Canelo GGG 1, GGG started to do better in Round 4 than he did in the first 3 sort of thing, but he was still getting outboxed)

You can make that same argument for Round 5, that Inoue still won it, but lets not act like it was a dominant round or anything. Lets call it what it was, a closer, more competitive round. People are trying to pump Inoue up to make it seem like he was dominating every second of every round. He wasn't, but it was still a fantastic performance that deserves praise.

It's a shame that some people here can't appreciate a good boxer because he ain't black.

He did at times because he knew at that point he had the fight in the bag with supreme overconfidence of his power & then we he refocused again & went back j to boxing he was successful at timing him again,

I've seen the same thing with Pacquiao where people think he is off balance a lot & easy to hit but it's just because those type of fighters want to end the fight so bad making them look kind of reckless or vulnerable at times.

Yeah Fultons defensive skills were impressive he was to see a lot of the shots coming and block or roll with then. As you say he never felt Inoue's full power until the end and when he did it was game over.

Speaking of the commentary, the American commentary was horrific. I swear they talked more about Fulton blocking punches than Inoue landing punches. Boxing commentary is way too biased, imagine if you watched baseball and they ignored doubles from one team. It's crazy.
