If someone wanted to mount an organized search with three best chances of finding Greb fight film, how would they do it?
Klompy is the actual millionaire who paid Dempsey and Johnson to have a private fight. EDIT: Wasn't there an interesting thread that involved an argument about cultural heritage versus property rights, when it came to boxing film collections?
Some ******* definitely has footage of him and is hoarding it. I don't believe that there's zero footage of Greb, he got enough publicity to be filmed. Footage of many less popular 1920s fighters has been rediscovered. There are probably filmed fights of Greb that we don't even know were filmed. Unfortunately, instead of being immortalized by the public as he should be, it's likely that Greb's filmed legacy will be limited to some sweaty nerd's basement for quite awhile. But have hope!
For legal purposes my first reply was a joke. Or, uh...thought exercise, or what have you. This content is protected
That's very interesting, I can see both sides. While logically speaking it's obviously their property, I feel a bit different. These people deserve to be shown to the public, for all to see. It seems kind of cruel to their legacies to just keep them hidden like that. Then again, if I found Greb footage I'd probably want to profit in some way from it
The politics behind that one are complex. Suffice it to say that it was widely known to exist, and privately enjoyed the chosen few, and then some b*****d gave it to the world.
