Dingdingdingdingdingdingding!!!! Winner! That is mainly the reason and biggest reason people do it. Recovery. There are so many misconceptions and assumptions all over these posts... Lots of good posts too. At the highest levels (and obviously lower levels too), recovering faster or being that much stronger or faster or lasting longer can be the difference between winning and losing. These guys want every edge they can get. When you have guys you're competing against who you know are on gear, in most cases you'll feel the need to get some too, to level the playing field. I'd say many athletes are on, much more than is generally believed. There are those that are clean though, mathematically its unlikely literally everyone at a high level is on. It is obviously wrong, especially in combat sports, when one guy is on a drug that increases his ability to take punishment or explode faster or harder, or last longer, etc because the other guys health is at stake when the other guy isn't taking the same stuff. As for health long term, the guys who have problems later were the ones going crazy with it. Arnold dumping literally handfuls of D-bol into his mouth without counting them (1-2 pills a day gets good results). Not being smart about it, so yeah you can mess yourself up. If you moderate and do it scientifically, no problems occur. It cant be stopped. It wont be. MLB knows their best players are on gear. They just dont want them to get caught. Its fashionable to poo-poo the offenders, but they weren't complaining when Sammy Sosa and Mark McGuire were blasting homeruns and getting tons more veiwership. They had to when they got busted though hahaha. As Victor Conte said "it's an intelligence test, not a drug test", meaning anyone who has any knowledge of what they're doing or any leadership in that way will not be caught. Any player or fighter that gets caught is just window dressing for the public. They need to have busts of name guys or people start asking questions. You can bet Dana White knows about the steroids. He definitely gets furious when his cash cow is the one stupid enough to get busted. He still publicly has to act as if he had no idea and he doesn't want it in his league. He does. If it cant be stopped, and it wont, it must be regulated. Testing fighters regularly so they dont go above a certain limit. Then performance levels rise equally and relatively. This means more entertaining fights/games... There are so many chemicals that yield so many different results, different personalities, varying doses of all that, that you can't say "I don't think he's taking anything illegal, look at him, he couldn't be taking steroids!"... I assume every guy is on some form of enhancement to some degree, and I don't hold it against him. Personally, I take Testosterone weekly and being 41 yrs old, havent felt this energetic and willing/able to work out, go harder in the gym, think so much clearer that I feel like I should have been on it 10 years ago. It really makes you feel great. Why wouldn't you want that, especially as an athlete?
Actually, he wasn't clean at all; he was on a well-known performance inhibitor called hard liquor hahahaa
Conte being involved with some of the biggest drug scandals off all times makes a mockery of his intelligence test statement doesn't it......... And you take Test, from the good old US and A I guess?
He was the one helping all those athletes fly under the rader all those years, so yes, he is an absolute authority on the subject. I don't see your point. I get mine from aliens. Processed on the moon.
Conte was involved with nearly all the big scandals I can remember so maybe he should have listened to his own advice. My point is I'm not sure you can just get TRT over here in the UK just like that. Doctors hand out pills like sweets over there.
Its big business. Conte was interviewed on the Joe Rogan podcast a couple years ago and its an interesting listen. He goes into detail about his background, how he helped these athletes and how he went down in flames. Fascinating. Very worth finding it if you feel this subject is interesting.
Disgusting, isn't it? Bottom line, what makes cash? What's big business? This whole world's a scam anyways. A con.
Much of this is fair & incisive. But Ihave asked many people for specifics & few can offer any cogent evidence. Sure, not everyone is on. But based upon what do you imply thatb the vast majority are using? We just have no idea. Baseball: many even running things did not know about the drugs at the time of Big Mac & Sosa . Others ignored it. But then there were huge scandals, tons of testing & punishments, & the players became much less big-& the records set during the steroid era were often not reached again. Sure, some still use. But is it fair & sensible to assume that all the best players use, just well hidden regimens? Even those like Mookie Betts who are not big, or a Mike Trout must be using? Again, why? To assume most all are seems to me as patently absurd as saying only those that get caught are! I also strongly disagree that we know what levels are safe for these drugs. Sure, taking massive amounts of gear is worse...But messing with hormone levels upsets the bodies equilibrium in ways that are impossible to predict. Also it is unethical to perform double blind studies to find out what protocol is how bad. People reassure themselves falsely that science affirms what levels are safe. Not working in a coal mine does not mean that smoking, though less bad, is OK. Now if you are taking testosterone in the amount that, say, you had 20 years ago..That may have no ill effects. But athletes at all ages & natural levels do not just take replacement levels, they may take many TIMES what anyone (except rare outliars, & some exceed even that by a lot) could produce naturally. Yes it is not evilly intended & guys just try to keep up... But you are very correct about cheating putting the health of clean guys in danger: not to mention stealing other's money, fame, success, etc.
I remember reading somewhere that some of the old bare knuckle boxers took a little laudanum before fights. I doubt it but would be interesting if true.
