Probably disagree with most things what Buncey says there from a fan's point of view. Joe simply did what was best for him.... and hence should be remembered that way, and people shouldn't then attack fans who see this in a negative light.
And there it is at the end. Joe went to America when it made sense. He didn't go to loose. Hmm, I think it would have made sense for him to come over when the ATG's that he fought now were still in their prime.
It is possibly a bit hastey going out to the US for your first defense, BUT, Froch knows he's got a limited shelf life, he's already in his early 30's and turned pro quite late. He's got some time to make up and can't afford to pad his record out for 10 years like Calzaghe and others. He's after the big fights and wants to rocket to glory. If those fights are to be found in the US or Denmark (possibly for Kessler) then he'll take them and much respect to the guy if he pulls it off.
He went to America to fight two fighters who are clearly past it; one not as much as the other, but still, both out of their respective primes - Jones especially. You don't need to consider other factors - his legacy is built entirely on two wins over old men in my opinion. I'd rate Ricky Hatton as a much better British fighter - he's faught more world class opponents whilst they were in/near to their primes, and has took risks by going to America more times than Joe. Hatton > Calzaghe
