Collins was allegedly sparked by a Junior whilst beginning training for the fight. Add that to having to get off the floor to win his last fight, against the Journeyman American; I am guessing he knew he could not do what was needed to beat the then talented but unproven Calzaghe. I reckon Collins would have done well to have heard the final bell.
I suspect that brain injured Collins would struggle against Joe. Collins output was good but not enough to hurt good chin JOe, and Collins skills were about even to Joe HOWEVER he was no longer the man he was when prime. NOONE WITH A POSSIBLE BRAIN INJURY IS THE SAME. Collins did the right thing in not fighting with a possible brain injury. However this thread asks if brain injured Collins had fought Joe, who would have won... I would have to go with near prime Calzaghe, who would use his fitness to overcome an early points deficit from getting dropped by Steve mre than once, to get a split decision. Joe would be unable to hurt tough Collins with his powder puff punches, but.... If Stevecollins started suffering from brain injury related problems such as double vision and weakness, the Joe would mock Steve Collins brain injury by dancing and showboating by mimicking the walk of a stroke victim. If Collins then collapsed in the ring from brain injury, then Joe would pretend to hump him from behind and whoop with joy until the ambulance crew arrived to take poor steve to the stroke unit.
However Prime Collins would probably have dropped and stopped Joe cal or lost a split decision to joe cal in Cardiff after getting repeated counts from the ref for slipping.
though I would agree that joe would love to fight someone with brain damage it fits the pattern of him fighting opponents ONLY when they are drastically weakened.
Thirty two stoppages in forty six wins including dropping concrete chinned Eubanks.Prime for prime Calzaghe beats Collins decisively.
I like Collins big. He had one of the shortest, sneaky counter overarm right hand shots I've ever seen and that is the perfect blow to nail a wild, loading, slapping young Calzaghe clean on the button and drop him.. Collins had terrific power later in his career when he learned how to hit correctly.. He was such a better schooled operator, too. & hugely experienced against all kinds of super talent.
why you complaining? I said that Joe wins against steve if they had fought at the time Steve got his brain injury scan. I am giving a positive post for joe. Silly boy. yes and so many fake stoppages in cardiff, would joe be able to get away with faking a stoppage against steve, that's the big question. I don't think so, Collins would make sure that wouldn't happen.
for the record I said joe wins, and when did a troll ever say that? hmm? exactly, never. yes but its joe fighting the weakened versions of greats ,I didn't ask him to do it. If you blame some one for doing it, blame Joe. Nor did I ask him to showboat against these weakened versions either. If you have a problem with me claiming Joe showboats against brain damaged Collins, you should blame joe for WHAT HE DID, not me. I in no way asked him to showboat against weakened greats.
Calzaghe would be too quick I think that was in his abandoned comeback for a Jones Jr fight. The sparring partner being Howard Eastman
I'm not complaining, I'm pointing out cold facts. Please give examples of all these fake stoppages in Cardiff.:think
