Collins was very, very tough but he doesn't have the weapons to beat a prime RJJ. ApatheticLeader is online now Report Post Top listen i am irish jones would have stopped collins in six to seven rounds,he was no were near the class jones was,i met steve at a dinner for irish ex champs, but he said he would have of beaten jones,if kalmbay could and mcculum did,wat would jones do
look at the castro fight jones loves that style of fight, easy for him really ,think about it,love mcullogh was better than collins if he had a puch
In fairness it was a bodyshot...I saw it once and it looked as much a fluke thing as the knockdown Collins had over Eubank
i was at both eubank fights,as well ,millstreet in cork was amazing for atmosphere,my dad showed collins a few thing when he was an apprentice sparks in guiness, have all the pics, collins was tough both would not have live with toney, jones, and i think sugar boy malinga would have beaten him, sorry for spelling had a few irish whiskeys
collins for me is a bit like glen johnson, tough as nails, and if you don't bring 100%, you'll get punished, but short of top class.
In their prime this wouldn't even be slightly competitive. Collins is not on the same planet as RJJ skills wise, his only asset in this match-up would have been his toughness and durability. Had this come off I fear RJJ would have made Collins look clumsy, cut him to shreads with his speed and combinations and forced a TKO around the 8th round. Take a preening Eubank and a shot Benn off Collins record and you're not left with much whereas RJJ is undoubtedly an ATG and top ten P4P.
I reckon Collins gives Roy a tough fight, I see it going the distance with RJJ winning on an unanimous decision, possibly losing 2-3 rounds over the night!!
yes, eubank - a drained, schedule-tired eubank at that - could have knocked collins out, if he had pressed the attack. and no one would be talking about collins. collins was good, was tough, but like tarver he beat someone well know when they were at the end; but didn't go on to do something really big on his own steam. he could have proven something by fighting calzaghe, but his career was over.
You are either Collins biggest fan, Calzaghe's biggest hater or both. Roy would beat them both but Calzaghe would at least make it competitive in patches.
I can't see any possible way for Collins to win this fight - it's just inconceivable. Maybe he was tough enough to go the distance but that's about it.
