Yes, it has. Neither of those fighters was a spoiler, neither of those fighters could make you drop your workrate like Ottke did. It´s not about Collins, it´s about Ottke cutting down the workrate from everyfighter he fought. He would do the same with Collins and outworking Ottke is the only chance for him to win. Not that he doesn´t have a chance, he would be competative but in the end he would have lost a competative fight. Because Ottke has the better footwork, footspeed, defense, boxing brain and because he has a style advantage.

Kalambay, Eubank, Benn and McCallum couldn't drop Collins workrate, so the inferior Ottke isn't going to. Collins maybe the better boxer of the 2 actually, he has good movement, defense, good jab, put his punches together well and a counter punching skill. Ofcourse Collins has the physical advantages with very high workrate, better stamina, stronger and the better puncher

I'm questioning how much Collins you've seen by questioning how relentless his pressure was

Ottke could cut down the workrate on guys he could outfinesse that were looking to stand and pick punches/box-fight in a methodical textbook manner.

Collins is the kind of guy you need to smash **** out of to cut down his workrate.Nothing Ottke throws is going to bother him in the slightest, winning for him would be about containing him with footwork, using it to dictate the exchanges while mounting a sufficient offensive effort to outland him.

Collins changed his style at 168(after eubank 1) from a Duran/Fullmer kind of approach to all out fast paced constant mauling and swarming. Not much skill involved any more and open to a big enough puncher, but i reckon it would him that has the stylistic edge if he fights like that. You need to be able to consistently discourage the man.

Collins middleweight to Eubank 1 approach would be a closer, more technical(but still hideously ugly)fight.

    Exactly.

What a guy could not do to Ottke was to out think him and try to be a cutie pie themselves. Man, he does some job in there with those guys.

But like you mentioned, Collins is not going to play that game. Especially the guy that dug deep and gave that great performance in that first Eubank fight. That guy on that night is a handful for anybody.

I always wanted to see the Ottke--Dariusz bout that never transpired. Ottke did beat the guy as an amateur, but Michalczewski is a 12 round fighter if there ever was one. I think he is a guy that was never ever going to play that cutie pie game with Sven. He also had that great jab that he stuffed right down the pipe. But you knew that Ottke is a survivor of the highest order, so likely would've been the first guy to end that Dariusz ko streak at lh. They tried making that fight for quite awhile.

Speaking of Dariusz, Eubank was #1 ranked at WBO lh, and took the Carl Thompson fight instead at cruiser. That is/was an alltime wish it had transpired fight that did not happen for me.

    Nice expression.

Do you think Gerald McClellan is the type of fighter who could've cut Collins' workrate?

I'd pick a prime Collins to decision Ottke.

I saw some of his fights a while back - like 3-4 years - perhaps my memory is too blurry.

    Collins the better boxer?

But isn´t that exactly what Ottke was best at? And while Collins would still be after him and try to outwork him, could he if he isn´t in range for most of the time? And if he is, most would land on Ottke´s defence while Ottke would land his punches, he was that acurate and had a really good timing. Yeah, Collins would work hard but it would be mostly inefficient. IMO that is.

Ottke-DM would have been an interesting fight. Close one too.

DM-Eubank would have been a good fight, winning would depend on which soil it´s fought IMO.
