A decent test for USS on his HW debut. He's not wasting any time which is good. Gavern is a solid C level fighter who holds a win over Quezada and a draw with Johnathon Banks. He looked alright against Ustinov last time out as well. As for Jennings, really disappointing opponent. Koval is 25-9 but he's lost 6 of his last 8 (5 by stoppage) including a defeat to a 4-6 journeyman. He was even drafted in to face Deontay Wilder a while back (he pulled out) which gives you some idea of what level he's at You'd expect Jennings to be having tougher tests after his win over Liakhovich. I like Jennings but Malik Scott has a tough fight coming up against Bowie Tupou and if Scott wins that he surpasses Jennings IMO.
A lot of heavyweights seem to be fighting on that date. Gavern is fine as an opponent for Cunninghams's first heavyweight opponent. Gavern's a solid journeyman who has some decent results on his record-beat Quezada and Butler and drew with Banks and Walker. I wonder how serious Main Events is about making an Adamek-Cunningham rematch. They know that all they have to do is keep Adamek winning and he probably gets a Wlad fight next year. Cunningham would still give Adamek a tough time and could ruin that fight, maybe Adamek-Cunningham 2 happens after Wlad beats Adamek. It will be interesting to see how Cunningham is matched at heavyweight. Koval is a bit of a letdown as an opponent for Jennings. I'm glad Main Events slowed down a bit after the Lyakovich fight and aren't trying to match him up with top 10 guys by now but Koval is still disappointing. Jennings probably fights on the Dec. NBC card and that will be five fights this year. Even though I'm not crazy about Koval as an opponent I'd still say 5 fights, several on NBC, and a win over Lyakovich makes for a good 2012 for Jennings. He should be in position for a big 2013.
Gavern's a pretty honest journeyman. As you said a C- level at best, though no longer at best, but that's not so bad for a toe in the water fight for Steve, really. But, it may turn out a waste of his time, all things considered. I don't know. Maybe a Gavern, then an Aguilera, then an Andre Rosey Brown, then a Chambers. I'd rather he skipped right to a Chambers though. They're naturally similar in size anyway. The Jennings fight, on the one hand I just want to see him active, but considering this is in September, I'm pretty disappointed. A Mormeck fight would be the kind of experience fight he should have. Perhaps Kevin Johnson. Shane Cameron and Nicolai Firtha are valid fights at this stage for him also. Those are fights to have at this stage, I think. Those would be worth it, even for the least of them.
Interesting to see how USS cunningham does. He is good boxer and athlete but he is sooo old and his chin was very very suspect at cruisers.
I like the look of Bryant Jennings, though he's one of those who I wouldn't be surprised at all if it turned out he was taking PED's. Hope he isn't and that he has a good career though.
Probably :yep Some hide it well though. Jennings against Liakhovich looked like he might be on something though, maybe I'm just being a fool and he's an exceptional athlete but his physique, coupled with the fact that he just didn't seem to tire at all yet constantly threw in combination throughout the fight without losing the steam on his punches makes me quite dubios. PED's or not he's a good fighter though.
That is right. I think same. Jennings is much better prospect than Mitchell IMO. He is good athlete and boxer. His frame is wicked, isnt Bryant like what 6'1' 'tall and has 84 Liston reach?
