Hey guys, what do you think of this matchup?

I think it's easy to automatically pick Liston, but I feel like a boxer puncher such as Cunningham is the type of fighter who has the potential to spoil Sonny. Imo he had a very good performance against Tyson Fury until he ran out of steam and let his size disadvantage take a toll.

Do you guys think Cunningham has more success over Liston than he did over Fury?

Steve Cunnigham is too fast and too athletic. I think Steve wins a one sided beat down with Sonny losing every single round.

This is the Cunningham who lost to:
    Adamek x2
    Hernadezx2
    Glazkov
    Wlodarczyk

And drew with 46 years old Tarver in his last fight?
A guy whose best win is over Marco Huck?

Cunningham is one of only 3 opponents that Fury has actually knocked out.I don't think this bodes well in a fight with Liston.

Steve Cunningham seems like a good guy. Hopefully Liston knocks him out early so he doesn't absorb too much punishment. Because he is definitely getting knocked out.

Cunningham will have very limited success with his jab against liston. He'll win a few rounds then sonny will get to work with HIS jab. Can't see it going past 5 before the ref rescues Steve.

I agree that its ludicrous to pick Cunningham over Liston. But it should be noted that some of the losses you listed were robberies. Not that it matters in this case but still.

Yeah he's actually a better fighter than his record shows, but in no way should he be favored over Sonny Liston.

No way Cunningham beats Liston. He seems like a decent guy, so I'd hope for a quick,
Liston-Patterson-like KO and not a Clay-Patterson "what's my name" type beat down.

You can tell there are posters in here who don't even realize how extraordinary Sonny Liston was...

This is exactly the wrong sort of opponent for Cunningham to do well against. He might have some early success but it's only a matter of time before Liston knocks him out. It'll likely look like the Mansour fight only ending once Cunningham hits the canvas.

Saying that, USS is a generally underrated HW whose record should read a lot better than it actually does. He deserves a win over Adamek and potentially a win over Glazkov as well. Very slick, gutsy guy who never showed up to a fight in anything other than top condition. Real workhorse in the gym.

Check out Cunningham vs Adamek II and Cunningham vs Glazkov. Both fights were very controversial.

The fight was in Madison Square Garden NY with a US referee and a US Judge neither of the other judges came from the UK.
    • A looping right hand sent Fury down in Round 2. Cunningham was knocked out in Round 7 from a right hand.
    • It was the first knockout loss of Cunningham's professional career.
