Steve Kim heard that Floyd-Ortiz got only 850k PPV buys

500K buys max. But after the controversy, 200k bought the replay. 700k buys is very much achievable IMHO.

 

I've been saying this for a while!

Usually when there's a "big" PPV I know of 4-5 people who usually buy it.

Mayweather-Ortiz I knew one person who bought it. For whatever reason, people just seemed past caring.

I wish I could say I'm surprised ignorant people like you still exist. It really shows that there is in fact no hope for humanity. Any common sense would make you question:

1) Who does Rafael get his information from?
2) Do the people/persons giving Rafael the information have an agenda or bias?



There was a thread by basketballbitch last week that the fight did 1.4 million. Everyone believed that as fact. Now it appears that number is way off. Even if it's not 850k, there is still a big difference between 1.2 and 1.4 million.



And no, they are not "still counting". Computers calculate that **** in seconds.


Whatever number of PPVs were purchased, the fight sales were disappointing. End of discussion. Lucky for Mayweather he got a share of all 25 T-shirts sold at the event :yep

If this PPV fell short of projections, maybe it had something to do with it being the most expensive one yet. That and I think the general public has been disappointed too many times in recent years with boxing's mega-figths. I've known non-boxing fans to buy a PPV like the Pac-Clottey, and then be totally disappointed with the action and never want to get another one again. Most people are just as happy watching sports on regular tv w/o having to pay $50-60 bucks for controversy and lack of action. In general the whole ppv thing has gotten diluted.

That said, when it comes to sales of boxing PPV, Floyd is still #1. As great as Floyd & Pac are, their fights are one sided beat downs and that doesn't create sustained interest for the sport.

hahaha. liked your quotes..seriously, although the fight was reported at 1.3- 14.4 buys, i was really skeptical..there were a lot of reported tickets unsold plus there werent much buzz leading to fight. schaefer has his reasons to report those figures but my intuitions say otherwise.woudnt be surprised with the 850k buys but dont mind proven wrong.
