Just listening to this now - good commentary.

A line that struck me about the need for fighters to take risks and "dare to be great".

I.e. it is not just the promoters, but the managers that are advising their boxers need to encourage them to "dare to be great".....or at least to the next level...

    Thanks for the link.

There's definitely some good points made, the TV networks need to stop handing money out like giros to their favourite fighters.

HBO do just what Oscar wants them to do.

There are plenty of divisions that are stacked with quality fighters (relatively speaking) yet all facing bus drivers on the premise of ''let's wait until it's worth mega money''.

Erm..... no. How about actually fight?

If a fight is big enough it will generate enough cash. A WBO level fight will attract WBO money, likewise a P4P fight should obtain top $$$.

The message probably is to stop setting lads up for life before they actually achieve anything tangible. It's bound to increase motivation to want to succeed.

BB - yeah I am sick of that line 'lets wait until its a bigger fight' - it is wheeled out at every opportunity.

Man, I wish we would get more live fights from America - Mickey Garcia sounds like he is the package - never seen him fight....

Plus, lavish praise for US based Phillipinno lightweight Mercito Gesta - must youtube him later...

    Who Garcia?

Just been reading Steve Kim's blog, he has a great interview with Gesto and his manager is saying he would put him in with Katsidis in his next fight! He is an 18-0 fighter. I think he qualifies for the 'dare to be great' criteria....

Garcia is good. Best thing about him is his composure - he is as cool as a cucumber in the ring - and of course his power is impressive. I think he needs to add more punch variety to his game and target the body more, but he is a solid fighter. He won an eliminator last time out, but I would hold him back for a couple of fights yet before challenging for a 'world' title in arguably the most stacked division in the sport. He needs a couple more Lock type opponents IMO.
