Does anyone know what exactly it was that he died of? Haven't been able to find out much. All the reading I've found about his death (very little) is pretty vague Anyone know?
I've wondered if that was the case. Or a drug related thing but not an overdose Not a bad fighter, gave a weight drained Fenech a good run til the 14th and had him almost on the way out in about round 8
Good question - after an 'extended illness' is about all that's ever offered. The fact the cause is never disclosed can lead people to unsavory assumptions.
McCrory story / trivia....just as Fenech was involved in the jeweller incident some years ago, McCrory also found himself in a bit of poo after a visit to the jewellers. A few of the contenders for the '84 US Olympic team went into a jewellers to have a look around. One of them decided he liked some of the stuff and helped himself. Then he walked out. McCrory and I think it was Mark Breland were arrested but later released without charge Who was the light-fingers? Clue...he later did time for murder, was released and is now no longer with us
Nah, not Henry. Another clue...he fought under the Kronk banner as a pro and by all accounts had a seriously dark character to him
Nope, he was a Lightheavy (another clue....he didn't make the olympic team but by all rights should have been there)
He was better than Holyfield when they squared off for the LHW spot (twice). Then for some reason another box off was ordered and Holyfield won this fight and made the team p.s. Holyfield wasn't high on the list of the Class of '84, in people's minds. Everyone was too busy talking about Breland and nobody would have guessed the sort of fighter Holyfield would turn out to be
We have a winner :good Had all the potential in the world but his mental-headedness got the better of him
Here's another '84 olympics story A few members of the team were playing pool and Tyson was on the table. He lost against somebody and it was Holyfield's turn (winner stays on rules). Tyson didn't want to give Holyfield the cue and Holyfield stood his ground. There was a bit of tension before Tyson eventualy backed down and gave him the cue Basically a preview of their fights years later me thinks
