I finally got to see a number of his bouts and I must say I was impressed.
Strong pressure fighter who operates behind a tight guard. He really just beat Sean Murphy into the ring apron.I think the most suprised thing about Robinson was that he was always thinking while applying pressure-very smart fighter.Mcmillan gave him some problems with ihs movement but Robinson never ventured away from his fight plan and won a close decision.I was very impressed overall with Robinson.Works the body real good to while in close.also saw his bout with Hodskin-great effort by Hodskin but Robinson was too smart and good that night for Hodskin.

steve was a good fighter who made the most out of a golden oppurunity to win the WBO belt

but he was a journeyman who overachieved

he was a Debnehams security guard turned overnight world champion

    the cinderella man

once he wan that title he beat bigger names than himself he must of gained alot of confidence from winning it

but once in the ring with Naseem hamed he was out of his depth and was bashed up in every round

He actually rebounded very strongly from the Hamed loss... the wins over McKenzie, Mcmillan and Hoko deserve a lot of praise.... he was a good fighter and would have been far too much for any of the current feathers.

He wasn't a journeyman by any stretch. He beat Mckenzie,Davison,Hodskins,Mcmillan, and such and they were all world class fighters.Naseem was just on a different level then Robinson but then again only one man ever beat Naseem at Featherweight.

I thought Steve Robinson was a decent, solid domestic level fighter who made the most of his talents .. He wasnt flashy but his fundamentals were sound. The interesting thing about Robinson was he struggled to make a go of things early on in his career, taking some defeats, thinking of giving it up, but he stuck at it .
His wins over McMillan and Mckenzie were impressive but i liked his win over Paul Hodkinson the best, Hodkinson was a tough in-your-face fighter from Liverpool who had a very exciting style but Robinson dealt with him comfortably.
He was far too orthodox and predictable to trouble a fighter like Hamed. Naz toyed with him all night in much the same way he'd do to Wayne McCullough a few years later .. Steve Robinson should definately be remembered for being a solid champion who did it the hard way and got there in the end ..

Robinson showed excellent quality to redeem a failing career. From Murphy though to Naseem, everyone presumed he was going to lose, but he kept defying the odds.

Indeed it could be argued, Naseem needed a top three career performance to dethrone him.

It was certainly a memorable performance from Naz but Robinson was tailor made for Hamed with his power and angles, i'd definately agree that it was a top 3 performance because you seen how good and unorthodox Naz was when facing a decent if somewhat limited champion ..

Prince Naseem Hamed vs Steve Robinson was like..

A Mega Drive vs A Master System.

To much power, to much skill.

    Prince Naseem Hamed.

And yet Robinson kept his dignity because he had heart and something Naseem seemed to lack; class......

Prince Naseem was like Mega Drive..

A Steve Robinson was the Master System..

Both of them had class, but over all. The Mega Drive beats all at the time........

Prince Naseem Hamed's ego was too big, one of the reasons why he retired.

Naseem's ego was duly deflated by a head first visit to the ring post, courtesy of one M.A. Barrera.

He retired because he lost desire and found pies!!!!;)

Remember he used to shave a little line in his hair after every successful defence?
    Good solid fighter Robinson.
Awful how Warren and the WBO screwed him (allegedly) over the financial terms of the Hamed fight.
