Butler isn't a huge name in the sport at the moment but in my opinion he's one of the best and hardest hitting prospects in the game, and a fighter who's improved his own game greatly after suffering his first loss. He's still only 23 years old and has 21 knockouts in 24 wins, an 81% knockout ratio. Munguia's knockout ratio is actually almost identical at 83%. Both Butler and Munguia are massive 154 pounders with great height and reach and both have almost fought as full fledged middleweights.

Butler's knockout resume has early wins over iron chinned journeymen who no one, and I mean no one, flattens, especially in just a few rounds. Guys like Lanardo Tyner and Silverio Ortiz. Some of the most dependable durable have gloves will travel journeymen in the sport. Cook was able to take everything the heavy handed Butler had to offer and was able to land his own big shots to turn the tide. Even if Munguia is identically heavy handed he's going to have to lay serious hands on Cook to stop him, the man fights like a feral dog and won't stop coming unless you kill him. Even when he was stopped against Kanat he was on his feet and protesting vigorously, and in my opinion Kanat has precision to go along with his power that the young Mexican can't match.

Anyway, the odds on Cook are ridiculous, wildly varying from +900 to almost +3000, or 30 to 1. I can guarantee that this will likely be a FOTY contender barn burner. I don't throw that out often, and the last time I made a thread lamenting about how I had a feeling a potential fight was going to really break out was Lenny Z vs Saucedo, and we saw what a barn burner that turned into!

Great post and great preview. I tail your opinion. Really looking forward to this fight.

Munguia looked a bit sloppy in his last fight imo. Cook definitely has a chance.

Cook isn't a devastating puncher but he hits hard enough to hurt almost anyone, in my opinion. The first serious punch he landed on Butler was a hard left hook that shook Butler for almost an entire round, the one that completely separated Butler from his senses was a perfectly timed right hand. So, he's convinced me he can punch with either hand. Of course, so can Munguia.

Munguia's problem is his weird prototype defense that isn't fully formed... he just doesn't know how to stay out of the "danger zone". He just floats in there and gets tagged, multiplied by the fact that he drops his hands constantly.

Eggington getting his chin checked by a relative novice at comparable insane odds is really making me think about this fight in a slightly different light... I'm just realizing more and more that taking punches like some fighters do is an absolute time bomb waiting to go off in their respective careers. Someone out there is going to get you.

A bum opponent, but a good example of how Cook fights...

Most people forget about the fact that Munguia is 21 ****ing years old ffs. He is not a fully developed fighter. He will still have shaky performances, lacking experience in many situations and hasn't a full profile. If Cook can take his shots he can win this for sure. Still Munguias chin has to be checked. I think Cook is hitting harder than Beefy?!
