Steven Michael Rolls vs. KeAndrae Leatherwood

Behold, the most recent (and probably best, or at worst second-best after Demond Nicholson) victory of Golovkin's upcoming June rebound opponent. KeAndrae Leatherwood, for reference, was outclassed (most fan cards in the RBR having it a near shutout) by a shot rusty Andy Lee on the Golovkin vs. Jacobs undercard, and has been knocked out thrice: by John Alexis "Dah Rock" Jackson (glass cannon son of legendary glass cannon Julian Alexis "The Hawk" Jackson), losing-record journeyman Taronze Washington, and most recently by Caleb Matthew Truax, in Golden Ax's last fight before defeating James DeGale for the IBF super middleweight title. Nicknamed the "Lightning Kid", his best victory might actually be outpointing Washington in a 6-rounder in their rematch...depending on how much credit you want to give him for doing the same to 43 year old late 90's fringe contender Julio Damián "Cuban Lover" García Galata last May...

Apropos of nothing: Anybody have any doubt as to whether Leatherwood would last the distance against Hassan N'Dam N'Jikam?

 

Golovkin at 50 would still be a level above this.

There's soft touches and there's Steve "Shiny" Rolls

 

See an interview with Rolls, he comes across a vert genuine and decent guy so in that respect I'm glad he's getting a fight of note.

At the same time, he is going to be on the end of some real pain. That right hand is going to come right over the top of his left and take his soul.

 

He seems a top flight individual, but he doesn't belong in a GGG fight and the fact that HNN was passed over for a fighter of his caliber is a travesty. HNN would never go life & death with ****ing Leatherwood (or Nicholson)..

I was all for N'Dam being the return fight, would have been plenty decent. This fight is garbage but at least he's a nice guy unlike Dom Wade who seems like a big stupid meanie

 

Dominic Wade is scum but he would dominate Rolls and was closer to deserving to share the ring with GGG (and he didn't really deserve it one iota himself)

One more , just to remind everybody who & what Rolls was before he fought GGG, and to stem off the urge that GGG nut huggers seem to have to spin that fight in a remotely positive light.

There was no excuse for Rolls to last more than ninety seconds tbh.

Yeah yeah, I get it, the GGG haters are obnoxious and this gives them ammunition and you wish it didn't, yadda yadda, fine. If you can't admit that Rolls sucks, however, and that the first ~9 minutes of Golovkin's performance against Rolls sucked, then you're just as bad as the haters.

It is no secret whatsoever that I am a major Canelo critic, and have supported GGG in their rivalry thus far, and scored both bouts for Golovkin - but I have to say, until he shows us something else, something more, something better, against a better type of opponent than Rolls, it does seem to me that he isn't the same GGG from Canelo II, let alone Canelo I (and even between those fights there was already a subtle but marked decline, as glimpsed in the opening minutes against Martirosyan).

I'm no GGG hater - look through my post history. This fight, however, was a shameless cherry pick and should never have been made. If he was going to make it, though, it damn well put the onus on him to look amazing, and to end it ultra-quickly. He did neither.
